I am wondering if these are so sucky in the wet if anyone has really wrecked in them due to lousy wet weather performance. This is just part of a thought process....if so, could there be recouse with the NHTSA to consider them unsafe?
I KNOW THIS IS A LONG SHOT AND PIPE DREAM, BUT HEY THAT'S HOW ANYTHING DECENT GETS STARTED!!!!! |
I'm not sure if anybody has wrecked in the rain yet...
Some people are going on almost 2 years with those tires. :wall: |
I have had some fun with them in the wet... no wrecks, but fun... :D

That may be true, I know I have had them for 7 months now...the point is, when a bird 'sweats' on the road, the drive becoming an adventure can get quite old! I was curious as to if anyone had actually gotten into a mess with them. If not, cudos to everyone with them for driving skill and good judgement to stay out of trouble to start with!!

I almost slammed into a median a couple months ago. These tires like to hydroplane. I have the "Z" Traction Control and it didn't really seem to help. I've developed a whole new respect for the way the car handles in weather.

Yeah these RE92 are a handful in the wet.
Was wondering though are your tires wearing down faster than normal?? Oh and you guys should check out NHTSA site for potenzas - tons of stories of tire tread seperation. Nothing about the max but not comforting. |

couple of close calls no wrecks though.... i only got 13k to the tires so i now have toyo proxes they r very good in the rain but the potenzas were alot of fun in the rain i liked gettin the speedo to read 120mph when i was sitting still comming off of a light..... but shortly after my car went into limp mode...... it wierd seeing smoke comming from your tires in the rain!

Yeah I've notice a little tire wear. I just had my tires rotated with 7500 miles.
I had an 88 Firebird about 10 years ago with Firestones - those were the worst tires I ever owned. They literally cracked and you could peel pieces of rubber off - the funny thing is that they still had tread, this was happening on the side wall. (Now I know why the belts were popping off the SUV's - no sidewall support)So I switched to BF Goodrich Comp TA's (great tire) None of that is happening with the Potenza's but as I mentioned before the ware seems to happen a little quicker than I expected. |
re92
I had them....I never wrecked in the rain but they were a handful on wet. Where they REALLY suck is on snow...I knicked a couple curbs on them...just going straight down the road and the car started drifting toward the curb and I tried to turn away gently like you are supposed to, and NO TRACTION. Now I have RE730's. They probably are horrid in snow too, but I'm moving away from colorado and the RE730's rule on wet pavement.

Thanks for the input on a possible replacement!

get the Nittos...they are excellent rain tires...:D
|
It's true the RE92 aren't great in the rain, but if you lose control in wet weather with those tires, then you were driving too fast anyways.
So I would hardly blame any loss of control on the tires only. Part of it is driver responsibility and knowing when to slow down too. |
re 92
I have some problem with this tire, anytime the water sprinkle on, and leave some wetspot on the ground, the tire reaction to the dry and wet spot and back to dry really bad.
They are in control, but I can fell that the tire start spinning. Maybe the max is a real beast to this tire, can't handle the power of the car.. beatiful.. 13962 miles and counting. and How long is this RE92 good for? :Jump: |
