2K2 DTC P1122 & P1126 - anybody? Suggestions?
P1122 = Electric Throttle Control Function
P1126 = Throttle Control Motor Relay Open Circuit
Here's the situation......my wife was driving the car yesterday (it was running fine) and stopped to pick up the kids at daycare. She turned the car off and came back 10 minutes later and when she started it up, the CEL came on immediately and it wouldn't rev past 1,500 rpm.
She limped it a few blocks before calling me to come rescue her. I showed up probably about 45 minutes later and started the car and everything ran fine. So I took it home and did some troubleshooting.
I pulled the codes P1122 and P1126 and referenced them in the FSM. FSM says that when these codes occur in conjunction with one another, perform the diagnosis for P1126 first. Okay. So P1126 indicates a "Throttle Control Motor Relay open circuit" and says that if the ECM detects a low voltage of the power source for the throttle control motor relay, it goes into fail-safe mode and throws the CEL. Sounds about right.
So I inspect the throttle control motor relay and the wiring around and it looks okay and that's the extent of the troubleshooting. I clear the CEL and cross my fingers that the problem goes away.
No such luck, it happened again this morning to me. Pretty much the same situation.....car was running fine, turned it off for about 10 minutes to change, and when I came back and started it it threw the CEL and went into fail-safe mode. So I turn it off and let it sit for about 45 minutes and come back and start it up and it seems fine again.
Can anybody comment on this or make any suggestions short of taking it to the dealer? I have more or less reached the limit of my mechanical ability and experience at this point and a search of the org did not reveal much information on these two codes.
One last thing that may be a contributing factor although I don't believe is the sole cause of the problem.........it is FREAKIN COLD here. And to tell you what I mean by cold..........it was -42C (-45F) when I drove it to work this morning and the warmest it has been in the last 3 days is -30C. Could the cold be affecting the operation of this relay?
Any assistance would sure be appreciated.

As you appear to have checked the obvious things like the harnesses and connectors, I would lean towards replacing the motor control relay. It appears to be intermittent, sometimes a symptom of a failing relay, it probably won't break the bank and it's quick and easy. I don't think it's the cold.......the car has a "bunch" of relays. My friend in Calgary E mailed me the live weather info yesterday.......nothing quite as brutal out here on the coast. An after thought........next time it occurs, open up the relay box and "jiggle" the relay in it's receptacle and give it a good "rap".

Well the blue relay all the way to the right on the top row is the one.. atleast you can take it out and look at the pins and see if anything is burnt
