HOusecor's fog light mod
ref: http://www.innerbean.com/housecor/fog_rewire.html
hey guys, i am going to attempt this on my 6th gen but i am lookin for some info ya'll could possibly clear up. on housecor's mod, he cuts the power wire from the relay to the oem fog light switch on teh stalk. then he connects it to the parking light. is the parking light hvae constant 12v at all times or is it switched with the ign is in pos 1 or 2? thanks! |
switched on anytime the parking lights are on...that can be done without the key in
|
soonerfan - so housecor is pretty much bypassing the trigger wire that senses if the headlights are on and constant power is supplied at all times? so does this mean i could just splice into any hot wire then?
|
try it the only thing that can go wrong is you blowing a fuse

The hardest part for me was getting the damn cover of the fusebox off.
|
I did this on my max a couple of years ago - rather than putting it to the parks, I wanted to run mine on their own with nothing else on. We tied into the AC fan, so that way it would be off when the car was off but was a constant hot. Hope this makes sense. I've been without a max for a while and was just checking out the site & going off memory
|
sooner - i thik i follow, are you saying that if u splice it into the parking light; when you turn the dial on the stalk one click, the parking lights come on as well as the fogs?
dlhot, thats the info i was looking for! i want to be able to control the fogs at will. this is also on a 6th gen so now all i have to do is figure out which wire is my signal wire i belive. |

Be careful using the AC fan wire. (I think that would only work when the AC was running anyway, like only when the climate control is on?) But, anyway, since there is a lot of amperage on that circuit to begin with, I don't think you want to add something like fog lamps to it.
Your best bet for independent control is to use housecor's Angel Eyes installation guide for an independent switch. The place he chose for his switch won't work for you if you have heated steering wheel (or, maybe the 6th gen switch positions are totally different, IDK), but the concept is the same. Install a separate switch. If you want the OEM look, get something like a heated wheel switch from DaveB to install in one of those holes. Just my .02. |
sooner, perfect. i rather would have that. merlot, yes, i have heated steering but there is still one more blank. i forgot aobut the switch idea. i remmeber doing that for my civic when i wanted to just drive with them on. [hids ftw!] i guess the "work" part of this would be to do the wiring to the bumper to the fogs and get the signal from the factory fogs in the headlight assy.
thx guys for the input! |
Merlot
I went to the fan wire - ran it on my 98 & my 02 with no problems. it's hot all the time when the car is on & is off when the car is off, so there's no chance of forgetting and leaving them on and draining the battery. |
I would definatley go into the parking light that way the lights work as they always have. Love the Mod. Makes a huge difference, for me anyways.
|
if you did it to the fan wire, worst case is you'd just blow the fuse, right?
|
I guess. To me, it's as it should have been from the beginning, anyway. Fogs on their own. I don't like the way it looks with the parks...
|
you want to be able to control them...thats why you use the parking light wires
at least on HIDs...parking isnt that noticeable http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y22...1/DSC01393.jpg |

4th gen:wavey:
i like the parking lights and fog lights on...imo it looks badass |
can you still turn on the headlights and fogs at the same time?
|
yeah, the fogs are just independent of everything. the key just has to be in the acc position at least to work
|
This is how mine are
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...a/DSC01756.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...a/DSC02082.jpg I don't know which way I like it better, but the way I have it now the side markers don't even come on. :) |
on my 6th gen, i guess the parking light wouldnt be too bad because im installing h11 3k hids down there. ill try and see which one i like better!
|
the way i had mine, you could still control the fogs with the stock switch, with/without regular lights/parks on. basically, it was like back in the day when i installed some bigass fog lights on my toyota corolla on it's own switch. my my how much we've learned in 14 years!

For those who have HIDs fog lights. How do you wire the fogs to stay on with the parking light but not damage the HIDs when your parking light flashes when you arm and disarm your car. I used Housecor mod before when I had normal fogs but now that I have HIDs I had to switch back in order to not damage my HIDS when I arm and disarm my car.

I have mine wired up to my angel eyes, its a really good simple mod to do. Funny thing is, one of my angel eyes will be dimmed for the first 2 minutes then it gets to full brightness after I drive around. No idea why that is though.

If both fog lights are reciving power on the same wire I would look for a loose ground on the light that takes a while to get to full brightness. It sounds like added resistance to the one bulb over the other. this can be caused by:
Corrosion Bad connection Loose connections Scotch locks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! With your one fog light working normally we can assume that the power and ground to that light is good so the problem should be between the two. this can be tested with a voltmeter. Not a test light. Poking holes in wires looking for voltage is not going to tell you how much voltage is available at that point. And by poking holes you have now opened up the insolation enough to allow moisture in which will???? Add more corrosion. Corrosion adds Resistance, Resistance will create voltage drop. with it getting full brightness after driving I would assume this is a loose connection. hope that helps. Oh and tying into AC and Fan curcuits doesnt sound like a good idea to me. Just my opinion though. If you send me a schmatic and tell me when you want the lights on I can figure out where to splice it for you.
