My 2002 SE won't start

:confused:I have a 2002 Se that won't start. When I try to start it just turn's over but won't start. I put a new battery in it, and I drove it that day, and stop by the store on my way home and it hasn't started since. Like I said it will turn over, but no go. When I turn it over to start, the security light will come on and stay solid. Does anyone ever heard of this or had this problem. My firend works at infiniti, but no luck. Someone please help, I miss my car.

try a different key..bad chip in the key thinks its being stolen?

NisTech Mar 24, 2008 06:37 PM

it's a little hard to diagnose no start conditions online.
Try another key first hopefully it's just a NATS security issue. I think it is supposed to blink (not sure though) check manual
So your infinity buddy told you he can't fix it? ouch!
You may need to scan it for codes first. Check again the battery connections and check the 100A main fuse on the red positive terminal if it's blown (in case you shorted something while boosting)
Other than that you're gonna have to tow it to a shop i would say

new battery drained after a day?
bad alternator that isnt charging the battery

NisTech Mar 24, 2008 06:56 PM

if battery was not charged up it would not crank.
I still say you should try another key or valet first.

i had the same problem, brought it to a family shop and they thought it was the fuel pump. replaced that and still the same thing. brought it to the dealership and they said it was the throttle body. a good way to test it is: with the engine off and the key in the on position, press the accellerator and see if you hear what sounds like a grinding noise : if you hear it thats the servo motor moving the throttle open and closed. if you hear nothing thats prob your problem. They charged me $400 to replace this, the bill said they also had to go through a throttle learning procedure when they installed the new throttle body. hope this helps

Solid security light while cranking = NATS/NVIS issue.

I kinda figuired that's what it was, but wasn't ttally positive. I have a extra siemens box, not sure if that 's the problem. Any ideas where to start, it wouldn't let the nissan consult in. It could read the motor and tranny, and everything was fine. When you insert the nats card it won't let it in, It just starts to load and then kicks it out while loading. My guy has never had this type of problem. Any help will greatly be appreciated.

well i had this problem on an xtrail where i could not get in the ECM with the consult. 3 hours later turns out short pin fuse or accessory was not installed at PDI by some moron technician.
That fuse is in there so when it sits on the lot to be sold it does not drain the battery
So i would check all fuses on it first (easiest) wiring diagram shows 5 different fuses powering up that circuit
I am thinking when you changed the battery you shorted something with a wrench or something by mistake
Did he use the purple nats card?
Next thing if you still can not get in i would try an ECM (nats is ECM controlled not BCM or smart entrance control unit, however SECU ) and after swapping the ECM you will need to reprogram ALL your keys again first before being able to start it

Also to keep in mind when a vehicle IE base sentra does not have NATS (optional)it just kickes you out the same way however all maximas have NATS. So something is not working/powering up that circuit.
Did you install that battery in reverse by mistake the first time or do you remember any sparks?

Yea, we tried the barney card. It wouldn't let it in. I have a I35 computer and we also tried it, and it also wouldn't let it in with that computer either. Into the nats that is, the ecu is another story, with both ecu's we can see the motor and tranny, but you plug the barney card in, and it gets kicked out. I am trully lost, and I really miss my car, I am forced to drive my 240sx everyday!!! It's been since superbowl weekend. Thank all of you.

go into the ECM with the red card and scan it for codes. Any NATS code/fault will set a code in ECM (engine) module as well. At least you will know if you have a nats issue. It will say PXXX difference of key if you have a chip issue on key. If you have a module issue you will not get a code necessarily

suspect tsb on crank sensor, or bank 1 or bank 2 cam sensors!
