Last night, my 01/117K mile wouldn't start. I was getting power (i.e. light; radio; air) but she would not turn over at all. No noise, no clicking....nothing. The gas pedal was stiff.

I'm thinking the starter may have gone but want to throw this out to the experts to see if you guys have experience this as well. If so, what solution you arrived to.

Have you tried anything yet? Bypassing the clutch switch or trying to start the car in something other than Park? Check the connections to the starter?

When my car did that it was the immobilizer that went.

The immobilizer will only prevent it from starting, not from cranking.

Yes, you're right. I actually just went back and read my old thread where I talked about my car not starting. It turned but wouldn't fire.

I would have to point to the starter, mine was acting up for awhile sounding like there was to much compression to crank and it would back spin, after about a year like that, i went to a fire call and when i got back in the car, dead, no click clacks cranks or tanks lol, i replaced it in the parking lot where i was parked in under 30 mins.

i would have checked all my fuses first before getting it towed. Usually the starter shows signs of crapping out before it actually craps out...

Sorry I should have mentioned I power checked the fuses; and they were fine.

I have an Auto/SE. Before getting it towed I tried every fuse and connection. Unfortunately, this was in the evening and I had my woman in the car so I needed to move fast.

Funny thing it actually started today but barely. Felt kind of weird (sputtering and rough idle) accelerating so I didn't move it.

Pardon my lack of knowledge,...

...but it appears that a starter can prevent the car from running well even if it has started??? I was not aware of that.

He just posted that it started and ran crappy....starting issues I was aware of, but it also affects it once running?

Just got back from being bent over (at the mechanic)...and it was the starter. In addition to getting my Tokico Illuminas installed; I got a new starter which solved my issues. She starts up nice and fast.

Unless the starter is sticking out and interfering with the flywheel/flexplate, it has nothing to do with how the engine runs after it's been started.
