Problem Getting Car Started, pro's Please step in
 

So I have a problem with my 2000 GLE Nissan Maxima. This sunday I replaced the Starter of the car as well as the Spark plugs. Neither failed, it was preventative or close to the time to change them out. I replaced the 3 rear spark plugs with Bosch +2 Platnium. Originally I had NGK Copper ones that last 30k miles. These should last around 50k I believe, and they have 2 prong instead of 1. After replacing the rear 3 I started the car, everything was fine. Replaced the front 3, started the car everything was fine.

Then I went on to replacing the starter, which was a royal pain (to remove the 2 bolts holding it in place). I did replace it though, cranks like a champion, I ran it twice that night, drove for 15 minutes with no problems.

However one time I tried starting it that night, and I had to crank threw a few seconds before it started up.

Now the next day, in the morning things work fine to work, I was running errands at lunch and when I got back to my car the second time I had to try cranking it probably 4 times before it finally came to life. Then I drove it for 15 minutes (Stopped even let it idle for about 5 minutes) then drove another 10 minutes. I was in a parking lot and then the engine died on me as I was making a turn about ready to park. I pushed it in to a spot and have not been able to start it since. The engine cranks strong, battery has 12v. I've looked at the front row of plugs, they all look very similar, solid shape and it worked for about a day. Now it wont go beyond cranking. IT cranks hard and strong as long as I turn the key, but engine wont start.

I took 4 of the 6 plugs out to inspect. I tried hooking up a volt meter but the ignition coil plugs arent easy to test (I tried sticking a wire in them, but was difficult getting readings, at best I saw it flux on the positive wire when I grounded it) No I'm not a pro with a multimeter. But I've run out of options tonight. I'm not sure what would have died and killed things at a low idle. Starter looks fine, grounded, rest of the car eletronics work, no engine codes have been thrown yet when I have the key at the second position, just the typical lights. It was not running hard, or weird idle, 0-60 was fine prior to it dieing. Everything while running seemed strong.

Any thoughts? Suggestions? Point of attack? I'm already screwed for work tomorrow my car is about a mile away from my house in a parking lot. I live around westerville, OH incase any guru's are near by. Really trying to avoid towing it to the dealership.

i would say throw away those bosch POS pluggs. Go get yourself a set of NGK double platinum pluggs and never buy bosch pluggs for the max again. Those pluggs are not desighned for our cars. I fell for that hipe before, bought bosch +4 for my 99 (a few years back), car ran fine for a month than just crapped out, I went to the dealership and bought OEM pluggs (cost me $98 back in 2002 for 6 pluggs), car drove great after that.

I may try sticking in my old plugs to see if fires up. They were working fine.

Anyone know if I change out the front 3 with old ones and leave the back 3 if it'll fire up at all? Or do all 6 have to be replaced to test this theory?

It might start it and run on the 3 NGK powered cylinders! Do that just to see if it will start up, then pull the rears out! Bosch has made fools out of all of us, at one time in our life! They suck on turbo/supercharged vehicles and don't work worth a sh** in Japanese vehicles!!!! Remember they're just for shelf decoration!!!

The double prong plugs (snake tounges) do not increase performance over the standard single prong. Stick with the OEMs.

try spraying starter fluid in the intake if it cranks its fuel related might be one of those freak accidents where nothing you did was wrong your fuel pump just decided to go!try it and see what happens

Same thing happened to my 00. Put the stock plugs in and it was fine after.
