I am in trouble!!! Caliper pin bolt stripped & cracked
I am really stuck! I was replacing my front brake pads tonight and when i was assembling the caliper i realized that one of the two bolts that go into the sliding pins was slipping. It was kind of loose. It does not come out but i can't get it to stay very tight either. I pulled it out and i noticed that the tread is somewhat messed up on the inside and there is a "crack" on the actual bolt.
I reinstalled it back on the caliper, gently, trying not to break it. Caliper works fine now and I need the car tomorrow, so hopefully it won't come off or break. Not sure how long it will last and how much stress it gets.
My question is - where can i find such caliper pin bolt? Do you think the dealer will sell these separately or i will need the whole caliper?
Where else can i go to get such thing? Does anyone know the specs on this bolt?
Oh, btw, i have 6th generation calipers.
The worse part - on Thursday i am planning to go on a trip. I need this bolt ASAP!
Any ideas and suggestions are welcome. I really need to get this addressed quick.
Thanks!

Your local auto parts stores will also carry caliper hardware kits, including the caliper bolts.
As long as it stays in and doesn't want to back out, you should be fine for some light driving. I wouldn't drive on it too long, though.
I know of a certain 5.5 that drove around for a while with only one bolt securing the LF caliper

If you can't find it anywhere else, most dealerships can have it overnighted to their location for you to pick up. But being Christmas Eve tomorrow, you better check soon.
I have actually driven around with one too... unknowingly. Good thing the other side was tightly on.

I tried ALL dealers in the area and the soonest they could get it was Saturday. I have to hit the road on Thursday so this won't work.
I checked some auto parts stores, includign Napa and they could not help, at least not in the next few days.
Finally, i talked to AllParts/Parts Quest and they should have a "kit" for me today by 4pm. Lets hope that the delivery is on time.
I also found a couple of bolts at another parts store but they should arrive by tomorrow 4pm.
I'll keep both orders active, so hopefully, at least one will work on time and i will get this thing fixed before my mountain trip. This has been such a fiasco but i guess this is the price i pay when i decide to replace my front brakes last minute before a long trip.
On a side note, my new pads and rotors work just great.
Thank you all for the useful input.

Make sure when you install the new bolts that you use some kind of Anti seeze to lubricate the threads so it won't happen again I always use it on those type of applications and have never had a bolt seize.

Ironically I went thro ur bad experience too. Then I had one vehicle and I was grouded. I called up a friend and we got the bolt (I have stocked 4 of them to be just sure it never happens to me). If the bolt broke off, I used a drill bit and then removed the bolt off the pin. The one mistake I did while replacing the pads was not knowing the torque on the bolt. It is 5-10 ft/lbs just barely enough tight and antiseize them. I must have done 20-30 ft/lbs and then the next time I was screwed.....
