Sorry all the exhaust I've modded with complete systems have always got smoother, quieter, and slightly deeper. It's due to the sooth build up it act as a sound deadning device. My Cattman Exhaust did this after about 200-400 miles. The weird thing is Brian Catts said it would.....

Well, I went to the exhaust shop. He put the car on the lift, and realized that I got the wrong muffler!

Apparently, I need one with one an offset inlet like the stock muffler because with the large diameter of the 3" piping, he wouldn't be able to bend it properly around a bracket to fit on the muffler I have with the inlet and outlet both centered. I didn't know the inlet on the stock muffler was offset!

He said that it would be no problem if I was getting 2.5" piping, but I said F that i want 3" He said "I still don't understand why you want 3"." I told him that people have put 3" exhausts on maximas and have gotten pretty good horsepower numbers, and he said "Oh ok."

So now, I gotta send the muffler back and get them to exchange it for one with an offset/centered muffler. Damnit! I was hoping to have it on today!

Here's the one I have now:

Here's the one I need:

Updates will surely be given as they develop!

Oh by the way, here's a muffler that I already have that I'm selling because I can't use it:

2.25" inlet (for use with stock piping)
14" muffler body length
Double wall angle cut tip with 4" diameter
Brand new and never used! PM me for more details if you're interested

I did the same thing earlier this year, but if the exhaust shop is a good shop, they can get around that small issue. My 2.5" Stainless Magnaflow exhaust was deathly loud (with a 22" resonator and a hi-flo cat). I ended up going back to the AE Muffler (Which flows pretty well, especially with the single in dual out), and it's the best sounding exhaust I've personally heard on a Maxima. Warpspeed Y-pipe to hi-flo Magnaflow Cat to 22" 4" Magnaflow resonator to AE Maxima muffler. All custom fabbed 2.5" Mandrel bent 2.5" stainless steel.
It cost me $1585 by the end of it all, but IMHO it was worth it.
Of course now I'm parting out the Max so it's all for sale again...lol

I haven't decided yet. Those magnaflow tips are expensive! I wanna go with single outlet polished angle cut tip though... like the one on the last muffler pic that I posted 3 posts up

But when it's installed, I'm gonna leave it tip-less until the exhaust system settles in just incase it's too loud, and I need to go with a bigger muffler

I think it was a 14" 5x8 oval. Single in - dual out.
I did my research like you, but it was louder than expected, hopefully you have better luck with it man.

Magnaflow's tips are cheaper than Borla! But both are high quality and worth it!

alright, i sent the muffler off today.. they said it should be there in 3 days.. then after that, it should be 2-3 days for the other muffler to get back to me.. so IF by some miracle it gets here by this saturday, then that's when i'll have the exhaust built.. if not then i'll have to wait till next thursday or saturday, cause the exhaust shop is closed by the time i get off work

Ok, my old muffler got there today, and the dude said he'll try to get it out today. That means it should be here either Saturday or Monday. If I can't do it this weekend, should I leave work early one day next week to get it installed? lol.. I don't wanna wait till next weekend!

single 2.25" is pretty restrictive on a full bolton 3.5. For 240-300 whp I'd want at least a 3"

not yet.. i'm having a performance problem i want taken care of first before i get the 3" so i can see the full benefits.. i'm getting a random misfire, and i think that's what's slowing my car down.. i also think the problem is the spark plugs because i found out the injectors and coils are good via the pullout test.. the plugs and 2 new valve covers (from DaveB) will be here no later than tuesday of next week.. so i'm gonna throw those in next week, then schedule an appt. for next saturday to have the exhaust put in.. both the muffler and resonator are sitting on my porch ready to go now though.. and i actually have a camera now, so i can post before and after exhaust vids (interior and exterior).. this will be the first thread i come to the day it's installed, i promise! lol

Sure... here's the resonator:

Here's the muffler:

The resonator is $115 shipped, and the muffler is $120 shipped. The dude is charging me $150 to build 3" piping from the cat-back. Total cost for custom 3" catback: $385

If I were to go with stainless steel piping, he said it would be about $300 to build it, which would take the price up to $535

Hope that's an exhaust cutout you're using at the track, cause that thing is loud but...... fast!
