Gas Pumps Don't Like Me

Everytime I get gas the pump on the gas pops off VERY often. I usually get like a dollars worth of gas (NJ's gas is $1.45 right now) and it clicks off. If I put the pump in upside down the gas will back up and flow out of my car. Often gas leaks out under the car because of the hole underneath the gas tank opening to prevent gas flowing out onto my car. So I waste money on gas that isn't necessary. It also takes a lot longer than anyone else to get gas cause once the pump pops I have to wait ten seconds for all the gas to go into the tank so it won't overflow again. Anyone know what could cause this? A kink in the filler hose is my guess.

are you the person that was asking about clear sides? if so get this fixed before any modifications.

and sorry you have this problem. sounds like a huge pain in the a#s.

You may want to ask the dealership about that problem. I remember a few others here having a similar problem a while ago, there may even be a TSB out concerning it.

Mine does the same thing, i have to make sure its in a certain way or it clicks off. When the nozzle is in, push down on it so that the end of the nozzle where the gas comes out is resting on the top of the filler neck. Thats the only way i can get it to pump without clicking off. Hope that makes sense.

I bet there is a ventilated tube that's clogged.
I had this once with a pump, switched to another one, no more problems.

Side markers are like 50 bucks with shipping. And I have enough cash to fix this too. Unless its like 1k then I would just suck it up and deal with the gas situation.

Definitely sounds like an issue with the way the air is vented out of your tank, but I don't know enough about the release valves/tubes in that system.

I am off topic but I thought NJ law requires someone to pump the gas for you.

They do but since it requires one persons attention I tell them I got it and they say ok.
