Timing advance 1st impressions

I took the Max to Planet Nissan yesterday for an ecu reflash to cure the infamous hesitation between 2 to 3K RPMs. While it was there, I had them bump up the timing two degrees and perform the idle relearn procedure. Here are my thoughts on the visit:

1. SWEET!!! I gained all the midrange I lost from the SSIM.
2. Hesitation is completely gone from the reflash and I didn't even have to replace the airflow meter. Got lucky on that!! Very worthwhile.
3. I asked the tech to adjust the idle up to 788 RPM, in lieu of the stock 625.
4. Throttle response is better than ever.
5. This is a must have mod if one has the SSIM. I was really starting to dislike the loss of midrange.

Price for reflash, 2-degree timing advance and idle relearn procedure with RPM adjustment = $104.50

In my opinion, money well spent!!! Specially for the fact that I got to test drive an 09 GTR!!! Holy ****!! What a machine!!!

Hey i was wondering if you could explain the hesitation you speak about between the 2000-3000RPM range? i want to be clear to see if this is what i'm experieincing. Also i do get that infamous rattling noise between those ranges when driving..does it clear that up too?

i thought the issue was with the solenoids
i'm experiencing those annoying late shifts too when i try to accelerate fast.
btw what does SSIM mean?

I was thinking of buying a grounding kit in hope of helping to clear that late shift. I heard some good results on shifting and idle with grounding kits.

Did you notice the pinging arose/increased?

There is a TSB regarding this problem with earlier 02 Maximas and Altimas with the earlier version MAF. Search this forum and you will find it.

As far as the rattling noise, there is no correlation between the reflash and the rattling nosie.

Nice review. I want to advance the timing on both my cars.

No pinging as of yet. I run 91 octane so hopefully pinging will not be a problem.

As long as you run 91+ octane, there will be no pinging.

When Technosquare reflashes an Ecu...is the timing advanced by 2* and set @ 17* BTDC? Or do they leave the timing @ 15*BTDC and just change the ignition curve?

TS does not alter base timing, only timing at WOT.
