HID'S

Ok heres the deal, i bought a set of HId conversions for my 2000 maxima, the only problem im having with them is, i dont have the use of my high beams once connected, is there an adapter or something i can buy to make it so both my hi and lo beams work ?

DoubleOmax Feb 27, 2009 05:19 PM

im assuming you bought the plug and play HID kits on ebay? You can only have high beams if the kit you bought had the bulb with both high beam and low beam in one. You have to get new bulbs. Make sure it says high beam also, these cost a little extra.

03VQMAX Feb 27, 2009 05:19 PM

Haven't heard of an adapter, but they do make Bi-xenons which is for both hi and low beam.

ChrisMan287 Feb 27, 2009 05:26 PM

Unless you got Bi-Xenon HIDs, you won't have your highs.

MAXIMA_STYLE Feb 27, 2009 06:44 PM

I bought a XENTEC kit, do i just need different bulbs? or a whole new kit? They are 10000k

Xentec brand has pretty good stuff, I have 3 sets of them, you might need a new kit if you want True Bi-xenons which use 4 ballast, you can get them from http://shop.3bspecialties.com/main.sc, or get the cheaper version of bi-xenons.

You need a whole new kit a believe (bulbs and everything). And 10,000K? Don't go above 8000K.

Ray Torres Feb 27, 2009 08:12 PM

this was given to me cause of the same reason you state...

:sprint:

I would even go as far as to say don't go above 6000K. Best combination of performance/aesthetics.

MAXIMA_STYLE Feb 28, 2009 05:21 AM

WHATS WRONG WITH THE 10000K KIT? I HAPPEN TO LIKE THEM.

1) Too :chebosto:
2) Too much light output (lumens) lost as you go up the Kelvin scale

6000K looks the best as it gives off whitish-blue light and there is only marginal loss in light output from stock 4300K. But it's your car, so go with whatever floats your boat

Not really, the police siren blue are custom HIDs.

MAXIMA_STYLE Feb 28, 2009 03:16 PM

LOL , well i already bought them, is it the bulbs that make the difference or the ballasts? cause if i can change just the bulbs i may do so

Color is all in the bulbs. As long as they are D2R bulbs they should work fine with the ballast that you already have.

To make the kit bi-xenon, you need a whole new kit. You COULD just add bulbs and a relay to this kit, but its not worth it. Why do you need highs.

Most states require high-beams to pass inspection. Plus they're important generally.

MAXIMA_STYLE Mar 1, 2009 08:59 AM

well in the lovely state of CT we do not have safety inspection so i technically do NOT need high beams, although it is just nice to know they are there when needed on a crappy day(such as today when it is snowing).

If your really want the Bi-Xenons just get another kit and call it a day.

High beams on when in snow is a terrible idea. On a dark night on a dark road is when high beams are useful.

That sounds like a good plan.

CMax03 Mar 1, 2009 07:04 PM

I haven't been impressed with any of the HID bi-xenon setups nor hi-lo setups

MAXIMA_STYLE Mar 2, 2009 07:53 AM

Well, i suppose everyone is entitled to their opinion, but as for me i can definately tell the difference in light output to the ground for better visibility at night time. But like i said everyone is entitled to their opinions.

you're gonna need different bulbs to fit your current kit in your fog light housing.. make sure when you buy the next kit, that it's bi-xenon

Kaane Mar 2, 2009 11:20 AM

10K is much too high for hid,s you would get more light output from your normal headlights.

GOPkiller Mar 2, 2009 10:11 PM

If you have stock headlights, you definitely need the bi-xenon kit because that model year only had single bulb. Now if you had bought the aftermarket halo kit, you wouldn't have a problem because the HID kit includes the low-beam only, which is really all you would need.

MAXIMA_STYLE Mar 3, 2009 02:02 PM

yes i got stock headlights, and no my stock bulbs did NOT produce more light.maybe on paper it does, but in my eyes and my visibility it does not. Regardless when i do buy a Bi-Xenon kit its going to be 8000k and im going to sell the 10000k bulbs and buy 8000k bulbs for my current ballasts

When it comes to fog lights, capsules > HID every day of the week, imo. For functionality, looks, and wallet.

Why not just get 4300k?

MAXIMA_STYLE Mar 4, 2009 04:38 PM

WHY, THAT WOULD RESEMBLE THE STOCK APPEARANCE, NO?

It would also give you the highest light quality without needlessly coloring it and lowering output.

Rico456 Mar 4, 2009 05:21 PM

Any problems installing those plug and play kits, looking to start a project this weekend on my 2000 maxima gle (headlights and fogs)
