NWP spacers/Oil leak problem
 

I was installing my new NWP Spacers today, and realized that I have a leaking rear valve cover. I was also changing my spark plugs at the same time, and realized that the back right tube(when viewed from the front) was completely full of oil. I believe this is due to the rear valve cover.

I have read about the 6th gen cover fix and plan on doing this next weekend.
Does anyone know if this should fix my problem?

Also, what would be the best recommendation for removing the oil from the tube and fixing the gasket? Should I drain my oil first?

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

yes the 6th gen valve covers will solve your problems... as for everything else, i await the guru's

As long as the oil was pooled up above the spark plug and cylinder, and not inside the cylinder you can just replace the gasket. No need to get a 6th gen cover its only the rubber seal that let go. If the oil pools up inside the cylinder then you got some issues. Its very common that valve cover seals dry up and crack.

Should you let it drain down into the cylinder? Or soak it up somehow?

I have oil all the way up the tube. I pulled the coil pack out and it is soaked in oil. (I will probably replace that while I am at it.) If their is oil all the way up the tube is it probably just the gasket or could their be another issue?

Same as in my $320 maintenance thread...you need a 2004 valve cover. It's cheap and it comes with a new PCV valve as well. The design around the spark plug holes is slightly different, which is how they fixed this common problem with the 2002-2003 VQ35DE's. Just changing the gasket would not fix the problem, as the gasket is only around the perimeter of the cover, not around the spark plug holes themselves.

Just use a rag to soak up the oil in the tube, then pull the plug and let the rest drain into the cylinder. It'll burn off after a few minutes, no worries.

like he^^ said, stick a rag in there, then pull the plug, wipe everything down, reinstall. After doing the spacer install, changing your plugs is SO much easier...

Yeah, you can't even replace just the spark plug seals anyway. You'll need to get the whole new rear valve cover, which comes with the PCV valve.

Its only like $50.

You have to order the gasket separate.
