Turbo Automatic...Won't move in reverse

I recently had a turbo kit installed on my Maxima. Car is not making crazy power, but is in the 270whp and 290wtq range. I have a transmission cooler and Drop Resistor mod and the tranny has been handling the power fine. However, I got to work this morning and went to back into my parking spot and put the car in reverse and it won't move. It will rev up but just sits there. I cannot figure out what is going on with the car. The car did sit in the garage for the last 3 days because of rain.

Has anyone ever had this issue?

I doubt it's anything boost related

what did you check so far cause I would start by checking your fluid levels

Check your fluid lever if its ok then its either your torque converter or your tranny. It doesn't move in any great that most likely torque converter.

Check your fluid level, what fluid did you have in there all this time? Usually what keeps the auto strong and alive is not only the cooler and drop resistor but mainly the fluid, it HAS to be synthetic ATF (mobil 1!!!, or amsoil). See if the level is fine first. also let the car warm up for a while, before you try moving it.

I checked the fluid. That was the fist thing I checked and the level is fine. The car was scheduled to get the transmission flushed this week and the shop was going to use Mobil 1. I have put under 100 miles on the car since I got it back. Car warms up for 10-15 minutes before I drive it anywhere.

clutch packs going. Does it move at all if it's cold? Like as soon as you turn the car on put it in reverse and see if it moves. I know the old saturn I have does not move in reverse when fully warmed up unless I rev it high then it sorta moves.

What fluid did you have in there before? might be possible that it wasnt able to withstand the heat and broke down, causing some slippage/damage. just an idea, or possiblilty.

Whatever fluid Nissan put in when they flushed the transmission last. I feel stupid for not knowing, but I honestly do not know. I actually just called a friend who is letting me use his discount with LKQ and we found a VLSD automatic locally. I will probably just put the car away for the winter early as I need to get the tranny done and my emanage installed and a few little things that I have been meaning to fix so its going to sit for a little while.

Oohh man, I hope my tranny don't go anytime soon.

damn chris, sorry to hear about that. Hope everything gets taken care of soon.

Ok, so the car sat at work since saturday. I started it up, put it in reverse and it didn't move. I reved it up a little like I did the other day and it lurched backwards. Put it in reverse now and it moves right away. This is the strangest thing.

tibal Sep 15, 2009 04:10 PM

haha wOw.. that is the strangest thing i have ever heard! good to hear tho. did u change fluids?!

streetzlegend Sep 15, 2009 09:45 PM

Yea but dont expect it to be ok now. It did that for a reason and its not just going to disappear, so still try to save up or plan for another auto

BLACKKILA.GTR Sep 16, 2009 12:28 AM

I know. I already bought one. I was thinking though, before this problem came up I had accidentally left the drop resistor mod on when I backed the car into its spot at my house. I left it parked for a few days with the switch in the ON position. Could that have caused this issue?

From my experience with bad transmissions, if you leave the car sitting for awhile and drive it again it will work but will go bad sooner or later. Expect a full transmission failure soon. It has happened to two cars I have owned.

I do. I have a transmission sitting in the garage as we speak.
