OEM Muffler Replacement Q's
This past weekend my stock muffler decided to go. I'm looking for the best replacement muffler that's not crap and is not going to rust out in two years. I got one from autozone for my last car and it lasted about 2 years before it needed replacement. I don't want to go aftermarket well, it can be but must be quiet. So any suggestions?
Thanks |
if u dont really want anything other than stock u mite as well get an oem replacement from autozone :gotme: ebay would prolly be cheaper i know theres a few guys here who have gotten them off ebay and they looked and functioned pretty much the same as stock

Go to Napa and check out the Bosal Oem replacement or go custom!

Okay to clear somethings up...The Oem has the valves inside the muffler, but the napa and autozone Bosal ones say that they don't come with them. Will this make my car run like crap. I can only imagine what the dealership is going to cost.

i have had a cattman muffler for almost 2 years now and it is still nice and shiny after 2 salty winters. It's pretty stealthy quiet unless i am wide open above 4k rpm.
maxima's are notoriously quiet unless you replace the y pipe or gut the cats. so if you want quality go with cattman, if you want an oe replacement check out rock auto (http://www.rockauto.com/catalog/x,ca...,parttype,5872) and if you want an oem replacement get ahold of dave b |

its a baffle that opens up at like 2200 rpm i believe its a "high flow" feature and i think it helps with low end torque as well

This doesn't really address the OP question, I'm just remembering that Nissan thought the design was unique for sedans at the time. |

I remember when the car was new, the OEM muffler design was actually part of Nissan's marketing. They talked about it in their promotional brochures. (Wish I had kept that brochure.)

A muffler isnt going to make your car run like crap unless there is some sort of major flaw. Anything from a 3a racing can to a dual tip obx or stock, the car will run fine. |
I'm honestly thinking about putting on a muffler from an 08 Max...things got nice tips and won't sound loud.

walker quiet flow are good. but i dont htink they're SS which might not help with the salty rodes. however, it is a straight through design (it appears to be) but with a large body and is perforated (is that the right turn) which makes it quiet. i have headers and i think it sounds pretty good paired with the stock b pipe. main draw back is that the tips are fugly.

No it will not make your car "run like crap" it will just sound different. if any thing it would run better in a sense.

Exactly. I have a bosal bpipe and exhaust and the car runs the same. The muffler is a little louder then stock, but i kinda like it that. The stock muffler was just to expensive. I don't know how long its gonna last before it starts to rust out. My best guess would be 2-4 years. Muffler was 90.00 and bpipe was 101.00 so i am not expecting to much. I plan on buying a new stock muffler anyway which cost around 350.00:confused:
