bbmaf threads not working.. new info on BBMAF (possibly)

ok some im looking to do some reading on the bb maf but some threads arent working. im reading this one http://forums.maxima.org/all-motor/4...iscussion.html and it has 2 links
http://forums.maxima.org/showthread.php?t=517758
http://forums.maxima.org/showthread.php?t=528554

they dont work. can someone post the links that do work.

also was wondering if adding this bb maf you need a piggyback tuner. i have cai, nwp plate and wanted to try this for better thr response but dont have a piggyback such as safc, vafc ect.

can you just add the bb maf and go or do you need a tuner. i read someyou need the tuner others you dont.. so im confused.. any info and addidtional reading info on this would be greatly appreciated

Absolutely will have to tune MAF voltage and AFR. I recommend EU.

ok this is for rroderiques77, NmexMax, SR20den or anyone that has done the BBmaf. i found this by spectre. they sell a maf tube with adapters for the sensor. it comes with 3 tuning pipes in 2.25, 2.5 and 2.75 inches. i called spectre and they said the ID of the pipe itself is 74mm. that is 2.2mm shy of a full 3" id. since ours is 68mm or 2.75 ID i was curious if this would be a good buy and would qualify in calling it a BBmaf. anyone use this or use a tube at 74mm.

I believe Gemner has a 74mm MAF. He dynoed 249whp with that and some other bolt-ons and a tune.

And get a piggyback and a wideband FIRST. The BBMAF may be fine under part throttle but it's a crapshoot at WOT...

Edit; RRodriques, you don't *need* and EU for just fuel control and I've read some of Nismology's posts on the matter and the EU and VQ35 don't really cooperate ("erratic timing readings, fried coils...")

[The VQ30DE-K on the other hand... :chuckle:]

If you want a good and easy adjustment just get a VAFC/SAFC. Instead of splicing into each injector it just adjusts your AFRs by bending your MAF signal.

If you want to increase your rev-limit, control ignition timing, etc. like you can on the EU, look into TurboXS UTEC.

Anything bigger than our stock MAF is considered big bore. For that kind of money, I would just invest into a Land Rover MAF.

can you get a lr mafv for 30 bucks or a smidge more. i looked on ebay and they were going for 70 and up. thats used. i see the lr has the same type of plug connector as the max guessing cause its manf by the same comp. also what lr one do i need. you know.. model and year..? also i was thinking since the safc and vafc are disc i was thiking about the neo. this will prob be it for mods for a long time if anyomore so i cant go spending 600 on a afr. or should i just see if i can pick up a used safcII. what wideband do you guys recommend?

EDIT:

Don't waste your time on a NEO. Too expensive for the features, IMO.

For the wideband, Innovate LC-1 is known as the best as far as response. I believe it comes with a USB cable as well so you can datalog to your laptop which is highly recommended since you won't have any wideband inputs on your AFC. That way you can do a WOT pull, view your AFR curve and make adjustments accordingly.

Another wideband with datalogging IIRC is the Zeitronix ZT-2.

I have an AEM UEGO and it works well for what it does, but it doesn't datalog. No matter for me, since it outputs the signal to my e-Manage Ultimate which performs the logging for me.

EDIT: About the 82mm MAF dyno. Look at his housing, it's 82 mm. But his intake is stock diameter. As far as I'm concerned, this would pose a loss of whp because you don't get an increase in volume because you're not actually increasing the airflow volume since the MAF housing is the only part that is actually bigger, which just decreases the velocity of the airflow.

EDIT_2: His AFR is still all over the place :hide:

a greddy blue will do the job. I'll be going that route next spring. I have a custom short ram wich is 80mm all the way through from filter to TB. I will be tuning with the greddy blue. I have had no problems with the blue and it has been on the car for well over 1 year.

There are no coil pack problems with the EB or EU if you put diodes on the wires controlling the coilpacks

jeff5347 11-18-2009 10:15 AM

ok i get what your saying. my cai intake tubing is 2.75 all the way thru also. so im wondering if the 74mm would be better suited for the 2.75 tubing. where do you get an intake that is comparable size to the lr maf at 82mm so all the volume is pretty equal? i get what you mean with the emanage but like i said funds are tight and spending 300-400 for a afr is kinda tight right now as the wife would not go for that. thats why i was thinking a safc or vafc used for 150 or so. i know im not looking at 20 hp gain or 20 lbft but 10 or so would be nice.
i did the block off plate and i def like it. off idle not to noticeable but once i get 2500 much more midrange to move the car.

if i got the safc or vafc with the wb would a dyno shop be able to run the car and pull more power out of it then just me throwing some figures into it?
also if i wasnt able to dyno once it was done could i tune it get in the area where it should be so nothing bad happens?

the car is my daily driver but its always spirited driving. 10 percent is wot to pass or something but usually im at 1/2 throttle or less.

MoncefA33 11-18-2009 12:16 PM

A dyno shop would be able to tune the car for you and find the AFR that's gonna make the most power.

You can tune it on the street if you don't want/have access to a dyno for a tune. For VQ30/35s, a good figure for making good horsepower is 12.8-13.5 AFR.

rroderiques77 11-18-2009 12:59 PM

IMHO, dont waste your time with a bbmaf. the gains are minimal.
I will be tuning mine with an EU hopefully this winter. Moncef, I will probably need your help with it. You interested?

MoncefA33 11-18-2009 01:10 PM

Yeah dude. I <3 tuning. It's my favorite.

PM me for suggestions/help/etc.

Cool. I will as soon as I get my PnP harness back from Kyle and I get this badboy on the road from some street tuning

MoncefA33 11-18-2009 01:54 PM

Great. My car is pretty much on point for street tune, the ignition timing isn't advanced that far yet though :chuckle:

Probably as good as its gonna get with street tuning huh?

Dyno time? :D

well, to be perfectly honest. If you want ten horse, grab the phenolic spacers and call it a day. Best mod for the cash.

rroderiques77 11-18-2009 09:54 PM

Or 3" catback for an easy five.

Easy but expensive :hide:

NWP VIAS blockoff plate + NWP Phenolic intake spacers will make your car feel good :D
