Blower motor resistor?
Hey guys.
The blower for the heat/AC only works on the 3 and 4 setting right now. When its set on 1 or 2, it doesnt blow any air (just started last night). I had a similar problem with my '99 a few years ago, but it was only setting 4 that worked, and settings 1, 2 and 3 didnt blow and air. That problem turned out to be the blower motor resistor. So my question is did nissan change the resistor between the 4th and 5th gen so that if it were to crap the bed, only settings 1 and 2 would not work, as opposed to 1, 2 and 3? Or if you have any other ideas what the problem might be, please let me know. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks. |
My in-laws's 4th gen only works in 3rd and 4th. She also needs a resistor. I don't think it makes a difference if it craps out on 3rd or 4th or both. Sounds like yours needs a resistor also.

I have the same issue and have to replae the resistor, but in my case it works fine and it shuts off, and then no air on any of the settigns... in the morning it turns back again and works like a champ... I know it is on its way out

I have a similar, but different problem. My A/c works fine until every once in a while, it will make a lound humming noise coming from under the glovebox. When I get the noise, the air stops flowing as quickly. Do yall think this is the resistor or the blower motor itself?

The blower motor resistor has a number of "legs" that could burn-out, so the location where the short happened will determine which blower speed(s) don't work.

Does anyone knows the part number for the resistor?

I just had to resolder a trace on mine and its been working well since.

I went to courtesyparts.com and from this diagram it looks like 27077 is the courtesy number. The corresponding nissan number is 27150-A33B001for all 5th gens. http://www.courtesyparts.com/maxima-...1996_2012.html My dad and I tried to do that on my '99 when it happened. When we reinstalled it and turned the blower on, smoke started coming out from under the glove box. :eek: It was at that point i decided to just by a new one.......i didnt think saving $40 was worth the risk of setting my car on fire :laugh: |

resistor location
So I was glad to log on and see the answer to my question immediately..my resistor is blown. Blower only works on 3 & 4. Seems it is possible for me (minimal auto experience) can replace this. I was told it was in the passenger footwell area..but I cannot see where it would be. Any place I can see a picture with directions how to take out and put this item in? Thank you.

Question for you guys. I own an 02 with navi, and the blower just stopped working all together. No air coming out of the vents at all. I checked all the fuses that have to do with blower or A.C and they are o.k.
Could it be this resistor thing? or could it be that the motor is blown? Any help is appreciated. |
u could try wat i did and dat is connect 2 battery 4 a quick sec nd see if it works(should jump if it works)

Blower Motor Out
I have a 2000 Maxima and have the same issue as one of the above posters. My fan totally died with no noise before hand and does not work on any speed. I checked the fuses and replace the resistor and still nothing. Has anyone had the actuall fan speed module on the dash/console go out? Or should the next step be to take out the motor and hook it up to 12V? I did notice an orange relay (P/N 25230) near the blower motor (directly behind the glove box), I did a google search and from what i see it's called the blower relay. Does anyone know if this could possibly be a bad relay?

I think this clears up my problem..well, almost...

I can't confirm but looks to be correct to me.
I replaced my resistor today, turned the car back on, and got nothing, no fan movement at any speed. It gradually stopped working; first speeds 1 & 2 quit, then 3, and 4 soldiered on for a couple of weeks before it died too. The blower motor itself didn't make any noise, so I thought it was a clear-cut case of a resistor. I changed the fuse under the hood as well, to no avail. Any alternatives? Is the blower motor just shot? |
Hey guys this is my problem I have a 03 I35 my AC works fine but when I turn the heat on if I go any higher than 2 it just blows cold air.

I'm having a similar issue, I replaced the blower motor because it had been making a grinding noise. Now I get no air pressure with new motor installed, regardless of temperature setting. This resistor sounds like the culprit.
Does anyone know the normal resistance in ohms for the auto climate control resistor? |
btw, I've checked the fuses, power at the fuse block and power at the blower motor wiring plug....all ok.

I seem to have the same problem as some of you guys did. None of my fans are working, but when I hit AUTO, I can hear the compressor kick in. Fuses and relays are good. Think my problem is a resistor too? Reason I ask is a bad resistor usually allows the highest fan speed setting to kick in, yet none of my fan speeds work.

I just went through the FSM on my car for the exact same problem... turns out it is the control amp for me... I recommend finding one of the FSM copies linked around here and checking it out... at very least it will allow you to confirm if the fan and resistor are working. (some unscrewing and meter reading required, but nothing too bad) |

Nope... fan resistor is down next to the fan whereas the control amp is behind the climate controls (if you have the Nav system it actually gets moved over by the blower too... in a white box). The fan resistor inputs the up-stream voltage for your blower, the control amp inputs the downstream voltage for the blower. The difference between these voltages is what determines how fast the fan spins. (the resistor also inputs the voltage to the control amp fyi). Basically, there has to be at least 5v (or is it 7, i forget) difference between the two wires connecting to the fan for it to spin... right now I have less than 1. The FSM also has you test your sunload sensor but mine shook out just fine. |
Thanks so much for the input! And duh, I should have known what the control amp was; I used to sell climate control units back in my 3rd gen days to people. Anyways, I was very lucky and found a fan resistor at the junkyard, so all is working again and I am cool literally and figuratively. It had to be addressed ASAP with this heat wave we're getting in the East Coast.

I have a 2001 Maxima GLE with climate control. The blower on my heater wasn't working. Changed the resistor checked the fuses and relay. Only way it will work is if I actually kick the blower motor and then everything works fine. I can't figure out where the control amp is? I don't have a navigation system.
Any ideas? I would think maybe there's a short? If the motor works when I kick it I would assume the motors good? Trying not to be a damsel in distress but any help would be appreciated. :) |
sounds like the motor bearing is going and the kick loosens it up so it starts turning.
