Gopher/Rat ate cable insulation
 

Guys, a gopher/rat family near my home seems to have sneaked up my car and created a home for itself. Some insulation was also eaten up by these voracious eaters & maters.

I keep my car parked outside, any ideas other than thow in some gopher poison around the intake module (where the family convinently created a home).

Wierd problem....

1.) Patch up any exposed wires with electrical tape (For now)
2.) Take your car on the interstate at about 70 MPH
3.) ????
4.) Profit


Although, you may have some guts to clean up after if they get into the moving parts. :gotme:


On second thought, just set some traps or poison. I don't really think there's much else you CAN do. Maybe try and get the car hot enough that it drives them out, but that's risking your car, then...

I feel your pain. I had a rodent of some sort get into my wifes wiring harness just under the fuse block in the engine bay (and MAF and CC harness and...). That (insert lots of expletives here) got vaccuum tubes, wires, everything. Took me two days, a lot of schematic reading to fix all the damage.

Called Ford and it was 1200 for a whole harness and over 400 to install it. :eek:

I read up on it after the fact and its more about being careful where you park it (high grass, near nature so on and so forth). Putting the traps/bait/poison seemed to be suggested a lot but nobody knew for sure if it helped at all as from what I read nobody found any bodies.

I'm sure there's some sort of chemical repelent you could use. I'd do a goodle search for rodent repelent.

Other than that it will be hard to keep them from seeking out the warmth of a freshly parked car.

lmao come to think of it this reminds me pulling apart my 3.0 i found a nest in the "valley" i have no damaged wires or anything but its like wtf? how the hell did whatever survive in there? that metal gets fcuken hot to the touch. must have been the last owner he said he kept the car in the garage for along time only starting it too let it warm up every 2-3weeks

I have decided to put some mothballs under the hood. That will keep the rodents out of my car... Thx for your replies.

Did you have any problems from this? Or could something like this cause a car to just shut off entirely while driving? No power, lights, nothing.
