Haven't been on here in ages-ABS question

Hi guys,
I joined here about 10 years ago when I got my brand new 2001 SE and have not posted here in a long time. I remember all of the great help and useful info shared here and now I have a question regarding the ABS. My light has come on, but my mechanic says the brakes are fine and he cannot get the light to reset and turn off. Obvously he is not a Nissan mechanic.

Is it possible or likely that the ABS brakes are ok, but the light won't go off? I am wondering if he just doesn't know how to fix them and he doesn;t want to say it.

If you believe the ABS are truly AFU, do you have any idea what it would cost to repair it properly?

Is it ok to drive the car with the ABS not working properly? Will that affect anything else.?

I am getting ready to finally selll the ca at 150,000 miles and don't want to hose the ne buyer by telling him something that is not correct.

TIA--Gregg

light turns on when the abs is off. you need nissan to pull the code to find out if its a wheel speed sensor (more common) or such. brakes will be fine, you just dont have abs. good luck

I have an '01 SE also and twice the ABS light came on. It was wheel speed sensors both times. Is your speedo working properly? It's driven by the wheel speed sensors and both times it wasn't working properly. As the previous poster said, brakes will work fine just no ABS. Also, my local mechanic had the ABS code reader so I didn't have to go to the dealer. Check around, many do have one.
