How much would an 01 5-speed tranny run me?

What should I be looking to spend on a New or used 5 speed manual transmission for a 2001 nissan maxima? Also if I bought it new where should I look into buying it from?

if you were in SoCal id reccomend a place called JES (japanese engine specialists) , i bought 2 used tranny from them and one used VE engine and never had any problems.
a used tranny, you are looking at anywhere between $800-$1000 with appox. 60-100k miles on it.

Gotta love it.. That's why I wound up with a 5.5 gen instead of something older and ****tier.

I wanted to go with a 5.5 gen myself, but hearing about the 3rd gear crunch and oil consumption issues turned me away. I had a VQ35 in my G35c, but because of powertrain warranty I wasn't too worried.

Should have gone for it anyway! 3.5 power is where it's at, and oil consumption is no big deal. I run conventional oil and I just top off every now and again.. I don't care... Oil is cheap.. Also, with a good gear oil, 3rd gear crunch is either gone, or almost gone.

That being said, the AE is nice too... They look great and have good interior accents.

Well the AE's locally as you know are a lot cheaper than the 5.5 gen's for the most part, so that was definitely the real driver for me.
