VIAS light on cluster when activated????

hey guys! As many of us know 00-01 maxima have a "sport light" under the tcs off light on our cluster. I read a while back someone put an led where "sport light" is and connected the pos. to a fuse that gives power when the car is on, and the neg to the VIAS wire on the ecu. This means when you rev your car up to about 4500rpms the sport light willl light up on your dash. I think its a great idea and im willing to do a detailed writeup, but i need some insight. Taking the cluster out, and putting a led and wiring is easy. My question is whats the easiest way to tap into the VIAS so that it will give me a pos/neg (i dont know if a 12volt pos. or neg) to light up the led. Basically im asking what color wire/ and where is that wire that i can tap into the vias. THANKS! (ill wire it under the hood, or ecu) whatecer is safer/easier

FSM sounds like a good place to start re: signals (v & wire color).

I don't see the benefit though.

Sport Light eh?

yea i guess if i have the "sport light" on my cluster why not put it to work? It'll be cool to know when the VIAS kicks on as well.

I used to know my VIAS kicked in because I could feel/hear it

Honestly though, not a bad idea as long as its done porperly without shorting anything. make sure you have the proper resistor in line with the LED. It beats putting an obnoxious light or gauge outside the factory cluster.

yea i know hondas been usin vtec for a while back. The sport light should be in all 00-01 it never lights up so you cant see it. You have to take the cluster a part and then put it to anykind of light and youll see the sport light. i think it'll be pretty cool to get the sport light to light up when the VIAS kicks in, so you dont have to wonder in your mind if the VIAS already kicked on, or it did not. Anyone know any wire that has 12volts when VIAS kicks on?

As far as VIAS functioning, it wont matter if the light is on or off, as the signal is independent of the VIAS mechanical action (striped screw/etc).

The FSM will have all the info regarding voltages and what wire to tap from the ECU. Though the RPM wire will be a frequency, vs a given voltage, but who knows, the VIAS wire may be as well.

Why not wire it so that it works off of RPM, as a shift light.

i know this is a ricer comment, but i can never tell when my VIAS kicks in..EVER! it's just a smooth rpm pull from idle to redline.
has anyone ever did a writeup to tap into the signal wire and make the light come on when the VIAS kicks in?

There is a wire that tells the VIAS to turn on. This is suggesting to tap that wire to know when the signal is sent to the VIAS to function. Since the VIAS is mechanical there is no way to know electrically that it is functioning correctly. Could be wrong but I think thats's the case. I mean if you could know electrically whether or not it was functioning as intended wouldn't there be a CEL for it?

Graph gm/s with and without it opening (pull the vias plug), that be my only way of doing it electronically .

OP get your hands an a 00-01 FSM, that should help a lot. I have one, but am at work right now, so for obvious reasons I don't have access to it currently.

If I get a chance, I'll see what I kind find re: voltages/wirecolor/signals, etc.

I don't know why that's a ricer comment. Granted, your 5.0 gen intake is a different design, but it's incredibly obvious when the VIAS opens wide on my '03. Personally, I hate the experience... it's very much akin to turbo-lag. This is one of the reasons I'm looking forward to deleting the VIAS.

Academically, it's an interesting idea, flashing a light on when the VIAS opens. But I don't understand the motivation for this mod.

The DEK power curve is as near as beautiful as it gets, IMO.

i'll try to get my hands on the fsm. My stupid lap top crashed and i had the 00-01 FSM saved in a file on a pdf. I'm actually writing from a comp at school (grtting a break from studying for finals). So if there is a wire that tells the VIAS to open im guessing the is the one i need to tap into. Anyone who is free, and has time to look at the FSM... input would be greatly appreciated!!!

because this mod in the end is no differnt than a Honda Civic DX with pillar gauges that light up at night or a Mitsubishi Eclipse RS with the same thing. or a Honda Accord LX with a monster tach on it that lights up to tell driver when to shift.
this mod is kinda the same thing, just toned down to be inconspicous (spelling?) so that only the driver knows when a certain feature is working.

i honestly dont care wether its rice or not. All those that think its rice, thats fine if you cant contribute to the thread theres no need for your comments. All im asking is what wire recieves 12 volts when the VIAS goes on. And its rice when people have a shift light on there dash? thats funny because the 2003- g35/g37s 6 speeds all have the shift light, and i wouldn't exactly compare civics to g35s, and i woldn't call them rice either.....
