Differences between 00, 01 and 02 Maxima's

Over the past few weeks I've been looking at 2000 and 2001 Maxima's. I test drove a 2000 GLE automatic today and I'm going to test drive a 2000 SE 5 speed on Friday. I'm curious about all of the differences between the 2000+ model year cars before I settle on which one I want to buy. I know they changed the headlights, taillights, and the engine on the 2k2's. Are the bumper covers different? I'm interested in seeing a list of all the other things that are different (no matter how minor) and what 2k2 parts can be transfered to the 2000's and 2001's.

I searched through the forum for a topic like this but I couldn't find it. If there is one you could just point that out to me. Sorry for the newbie post and thanks a lot!

Lots of little things are different. The radio control buttons on the steering wheel are on the 2k1 and 2k2 but was not on the 2k. That is jsut for starters, I'll let others help answer too. :D

2k2 has the 2 seat position memory, not on the 2k not sure about the 2k1.

the sunroof control is a slider on the 2k2, a button on the 2k, 2k1.

the cup holder has a release button, on the 2k and 2k1 it push locks/relases.

heated steering on 2k2

steel outlined gauges on the 2k2

Just get the 2k2 .....woosh out

The 2k2 also has a different transmission; the suspension was also retuned so when you test drive the 2002 on Friday the ride will be smoother than the 2000 you drove. The 2002 are much much faster than the 2000's.

Things not mentioned that the 02 has:
2002's have a one touch sunroof, optional navigation system, dual stage map lights, Electronic Brake distribution, close ratio 6spd manual tranny{optional HLSD}, clear altezza style tail lights, chrome nissan emblem on steering wheel, trip computer that has lots of cool functions, new more supportave seats, auto dimming rear view mirror, silent timing chain, and standard side skirts.

Differences between 2K-2K1:
The 2K1 has a auto dimming rear view mirror and audio controls on the steering wheel. There is also a Aniversary edition{AE} 2001 maxima which has, HLSD, AE shift knob, AE pedals, AE carpets, AE perforated leather, AE Key, 227 HP, AE badge on trunk and a AE body kit.

If the AE Max's have VSLD please explain this story.........

So me and two other friends are always talking about racing. One with a 95 accord with a prelude engine in it. And a 2000 328i. And me with my 2k1ae. We pull up to a light with three lanes. I'm really new with racing my maxima so I didn’t know how to torque brake that good, so I just put it in 1st and floored it. The 328 took off like a motha with absolutely no wheel spin, but then again he has traction control. My car had so much wheel spin even I couldn’t believe it. We slowed down at about 90 with the whole time the 328 about a full car length ahead of me. I thought my car would at least catch up to him in the higher rpm's but it didn’t do any good. I was shifting at about 6500 rpm's.

This story was posted by a member who has a 2K1 AE, why did he have such wheel spin? Is not VSLD supposed to prevent this? If not will HSLD?

2k2 has a bigger, "more agressive" grill as they say.

look here too:

hahahahahah , i posted that like a month ago. I dont know why i got so much wheel spin  All i did was put it in first (auto) and slammed on the gas when it turned green, not torque braking, just slammed it. I'm no car expert, but arent VLSD and HLSD applied to the rear wheels? So if that is true then theres your answer.

You have a 2001 Maxima SE 20th anniversary edition right? I thought those cars only came in Manual transmission..... Or do you mean something else by (auto)?

Limited Slip Differentials are just differentials with a limiting device between the two drive wheels, so if it's on the Max it must be on the front (drive) wheels. I laso believe the Viscous Limited Slip Differential in the AE was only on the stick version. The wheelspin reduction comes from the fact that both wheels have to spin pretty much together - not just one at a time.

AE's come with auto and VLSD

FOr AE's VLSD was standard, Auto was an option

for some differences the 2000 and 2001 have different holders for the ABS lines that interfear when you install a RSB. No clue on the 2k2.

One touch sunroof and the auto dimming rear view mirror are not new to the 2K2...available on the 2K1 as well.

I knew you guy's had the auto dimming rearview mirror in 01, I mentioned that in my post. The 02 sunroof controls are different from the 01's, you can choose 1/4, 1/2, 3/4 or fully open with a touch of the pinky.
