No money to fix the maxima... don't know what to do right now?
Car drives like crap, the engine just revs but it's barely moves, the o2 sensors are bad and I think their just gone. The engine light doesn't even come on anymore and I think the engine is gonna bite the dust soon.
Basically I have the rev the car to 4rpm for the car to even move and it's not the clutch but dead O2 sensors... A friend of mine says go to the junkyard for O2 sensors since I can't afford new ones. |

How many miles on the motor?
Id say scrap yard for your sensors, and when you get some $$ get a tune up. |
165k...
The sensors are doing something to the car but it doesn't move unless it revs high. |
Have you checked for codes?
|
That sounds more like transmission to me, my camry was like that right before it stopped moving completely haha
|
Get it checked out at a shop you trust.

In previous posts you said you had a six speed, so based on that I'd actually say it's the clutch. If you have driven it like this for an extended period of time you're looking at a new clutch disc and a new clutch plate, and maybe a flywheel. The big cost is the labor to swap that, though - going with used parts, or half-assing it isn't worth it. Used O2 sensors are fine though, changing those isn't too miserable.
If you have an automatic and it drives like that, yes, start looking for a replacement transmission at the wreckers. If you don't maintain the car (i.e. because you have other spending priorities) and complain for months about a problem before seeing what it takes to fix it, this is the result. They don't fix themselves. |

I need a clutch, transmission kit... Anyone have a chap place to buy it? My mechanic told me 650 for everything including labor.
|
165k, I hope your exhaust isn't stock b/c the cats are probably clogged and the engine toasted by now.
|
So I need a new cat too? Or do I need a exhaust? What's the issue with the exhaust and high mileage?
|
Still interested in selling it???? What yr?

I mentioned the exhaust b/c the cats at that mileage are clogged and will 1st cripple perf then kill the engine if not fixed. |

a properly maintained car would never get to this point
:mrgone: |
^^plus 2! A car does not go from ok to not working just like that. There were warning signs.

I missed the part about reving to 4k. That's definitely slippage.
I mentioned the exhaust b/c the cats at that mileage are clogged and will 1st cripple perf then kill the engine if not fixed. First: clutch - verify this is the problem. Look online. Sometimes you can get percentages off from Advance Auto Parts or some other store when you buy online, and that can add up: I bought a pair of rear calipers, pads, and other odds and sods for the job for about $130. Napa wanted almost as much for one caliper alone. Look on ebay if you have to. In your financial situation, cheap parts are better than the current situation. Just remember the cheap stuff may not last as long. Second: O2 Sensors - check your wiring first. If you decide to replace, look online if you're looking for new parts. Hit the wreckers regularly if you're going with used ones. If possible, take a 12V battery with you to the wreckers to power up the dash in the car or have some other way of estimating the mileage on them. WARNING: Remember to do this separately - hooking up a car battery to a partially scavenged car's terminals is a recipe for a fire otherwise, and you don't want to be near that. Third: When you pull your O2 sensors it can tell you a lot about the condition on the inside of the pipe. If they're coated with soot, or with (oh no) oil, you have a problem upstream. If there is a catalytic converter between the sensor and the engine, you can bet what's on the sensor is in the cat too. This being said, should you find a low-mileage car at the wreckers, or one with a shiny new exhaust, by all means, pick it up if you need it or can store it. They don't come up often, but heck, if you suspect you need one, and you can score a slightly used $1000 exhaust for $200, you just found $800 as far as I am concerned. |

No shame in admitting the truth, a corolla or a little civic is better suited till I get back on my feet financially. The guy who sold me the car was a smart lad, he was a student who wasn't working lol.. his mom had a car for him to use. Too bad I didn't see it... |
