How to replace park / neutral switch on 03 automatic??
 

Anyone have instructions on how to replace the park position switch / neutral switch on a 2003 Maxima automatic transmission? I could really use a step by step and pictures if anyone has them. Thanks for the help!

I tried to take apart the automatic shifter and got some of the trim off and then got stuck and couldn't get down to the park position switch.

I am having a Intermittent non-starting problem in park. Sometimes I have to jiggle or push forward the shifter while in park to get it to start. I read through old threads on here and it seems that the park position switch is the problem.

Exchanging PNP switch can be done from top and from bottom of the car as well. If operating from top, remove battery and its bracket, remove front part of air intake (disconnect 2 electrical harnesses, remove two pistons at front air intake, remove front air intake), then you'll see PNP switch right under battery bracket. If operating from bottom just remove left protection shield - 3 pistons and 3 (or 4?) bolts. PNP switch is linked with manual shaft, so after removing 3 bolts holding PNP switch it is a bit tricky to get it out and not to break plastic parts (remove electrical harness from PHP switch first). Just move it a little left-right-up-down and you'll finally understand how to get it out. To make it easier you can remove control cable nut to be able to switch manual shaft positions. You can use a screwdriver to temporary remove trigger from PNP switch, but make sure you remember its position to install it back in a right way.
Make sure to adjust PNP switch and control cable after exchanging.

Checked service manual, AT disassembly section.
No special procedures are provided, just "remove pnp switch", that's it.
