5.5 Headlights - Quick Q's before purchase

I did search, there is lots of info on this swap but most of it is dead links and old threads by now.

All I really need to know is:

1. How big the gap is between the headlight and bumper (measured/close up pics) when you swap them into a 5th gen.

2. Will the ballast and all components needed be attatched to the headlight? I am having them ordered in, not able to remove them from the car myself, so I need to make sure everything is included.

3. Want to know what to look for to ensure they are OEM and have all OEM components (nissan emblem, etc?)

I was pretty shocked I was able to find them for $200 CAD each, so I just want to make sure,

Thanks guys much appreciated.

Oh, you definitely won't have a gap on the 5th gen bumper using 5.5 heads, if anything, you'll have excess headlight lol.

hope this helps.

The stock 5.5 gen headlights have the ballast attached on a bracket under the headlight. Its probably half the size of the headlight which makes it a bit of a hassle fitting and removing the headlight but you should be able to do it. Removing some of the plastic clips that hold the top of bumper may help

good link, however im pretty sure you could mount the ballast anywhere in the bay. just make sure you have decent wire from the ballast to the bulb, as it takes ~25,000 volts to strike the bulb

LOL thanks, I had that backwards for some reason. Awesome, even more reason to keep my bumper :)

Thank you, thank you, perfect reply.
Now I just need to make sense of the mess of yellow wires in the HOW-TO for the wiring... anyone have a better link then that?

-Thanks for swift replies :woot: Now I'll just hope they are good headlights, should find out Thursday :)

Ok, why do all the people who answer the phones at the wreckers have to be such pricks? This is the only type of business I've ever encountered where the seller gets to be a complete deuch all the time and gets away with it!
/Rant

Anyways, the guy screwed up and inventoried the headlights wrong, they now want $550 Per headlight. And I already put the deposit down on the 'wrong' ones, but of course he wasn't willing to rectify this.

A call to the BBB is in order I think.

Thanks for the replies, but so far it looks like I can't find these under $500 each, so that's not happening, guess I have to buy a dam HID kit.

wait for a set to pop up here man...at that price you'd be better of going to the dealer for a brand new set

That's what I'm saying. But the wreckers seem to have a database of estimated resale price, and the OEM used headlights are listed around $500-600 each, so even if they pop up... the price is still way too high...
Unless there is someone selling them that doesn't know the price range...

on here you can find a set for around $500

Shipping is the killer, I'm cool with $500, but by the time someone ships it to Canada and I pay duties, etc, it'll be considerably more.
I'll keep my eyes peeled though, and let me know if you're aware of a set guys! For now I've got my big grille project to figure out...

I'm actually having a problem with OEM replacement lights. I burned out a ballast but the dealer said my only option is to buy the entire assembly. Way too expensive. I'm thinking about buying a new set of aftermarket lenses but I'm not sure if they'll fit on a 5.5 gen Max.

I know the light cluster will be different, but that doesn't concern me. As long as they work. I did a terrible job modifying my current headlights which led to them leaking and ruining the ballast.
