Another tranny bites the dust

Well I'm yet another 5.5gen owner to fall victim to the recent rash of failing transmissions.

Fluid was changed recently although smells burnt.

Tranny has some nasty slippage.
Doesn't shift out of third, at 60mph I'm sitting at 3k rpm and once I let off the throttle it goes down to idle rpm...

GOOD NEWS!
Ordered the HD shift kit (RE4F04B-HD2)
Also contacted Andre from Edge Racing and getting a new torque converter made with a 3k stall and what not. Should be sweet.

All of this will not be installed by me - transmission are gay.

Used tranny - $450 60k miles
Torque converter - $450 shipped
RE4F04B-HD2 shift kit - $150 shipped
Labor - $600ish
--------------
$1650 total.....

also adding a transmission cooler - any one know a high quality one that's NOT over priced Stillen crap?

Ouch...but will be practically a new car.
It as a 40k engine, new rack, new suspension components.

Will post some info on how this all turns out after the install of the transmission....

I'm interested in getting one of those shift kits this summer. Isn't the HD2 for nitrous/boost setups?

Yeah that's what it says on the website, but after reading quite a bit and talking to other I decided to go with this kit. Not to mention I have other power plans down the road.

Let me know how it works out. Just wondering if it'll shift too hard for a dd

Depends, I like my coilovers on the stiffest settings, so a hard more performance driven transmission will be nice. I don't drive this car daily, but I like to enjoy it when I do.

I just ordered an HD2 shift kit tonight!

In the past I've had some tranny slippage problems due to bad solenoids... so I replaced those and it's been ok since then, but I'm pretty sure there was some slight damage done to clutch packs. Anyway, I've been using my DR mod at WOT, and whenever I do that, my shifts are just fine... So I'm hoping this kit negates the need for my DR switch and prolongs the life of my tranny. If not, I can always swap my HD2 valve body into a "new" junkyard tranny (possibly with a new torque converter) when/if that day comes. I'm pretty jealous though storm... I'd LOVE to get a torque converter like that...

I didn't go the route of the tube/fin cooler, kinda outdated....... Stacked plates are more efficient. Thats the route I went, got a bracket fabbed and have to do a little shaving so I don't have to run the lines under the car.....
A work in progress, got sometime before it starts warming up

What fluid are you using? Last time I flushed (not a power flush, don't worry), I used Mobil Super Multi-Vehicle ATF (semi-synthetic)... should I use something different this time?

That convertor is one of the best mods ive done. Right behind headers. Notable IMMEDIATELY, just like headers

type k is a specialized lubricant, with specialized molocules, effects pressures and different agents in the tranny ...i just gave misinformation, i put matic k in the 04 maxima and matic d in my car i just checked

matic k is more for the 5ats
matic d is for the 4ats

Is it ok to just do a drain and fill with OEM Matic D if I have something different in there right now or should I try to flush all the other ATF out?

I wouldn't suggest a full flush, that can break down your tranny faster - I would call the dealer and see what they say about that. I'm not sure what fluid you have in now, and how well it will mesh with the dextron. The properties may be different and reject/contradict each other.

I don't mean a REAL flush. Just where you drain, add ~5qts, unplug the tranny fluid feed to the radiator, start car and drain ~2qts, turn off car, add 2qts, repeat, repeat, repeat... Then It gets most of the old fluid out.

Hayden 404 Automatic Transmission Cooler
I have it, and is great onlything in it doesnt have a temperature gauge for automatic turn off in very cold temperatures. So in winter months you cannot get on it in the morning untill its really warmed up (which is still cold but ya know what I mean)
There was another cooler than had the auto turn off sensor. Def a few threads on the coolers.

Yeah just do a regular drain and fill on our cars.

Yeah I haven't searched much on coolers. They all pretty much do the same thing, I just gotta read reviews.

Ok, I'll just stick with drain and fills. Will it hurt to mix some Nissan Matic D in with the Mobil Super I have in there now?

Got one, just waiting on the front end install to put it on. When we drop and put the stillen on its plenty of room up front for it.
