Runs fine then bucks, hesitates, won't go over 40mph. Help!
My friend has a 2001 Infiniti i30. I know it's not a maxima but it's close enough really and the same drive-train.
She called and said it was having a hard time starting and it's been doing it for a 3 days. Today it wouldn't turnover and when she finally got it turned over and going she described that it was shuddering badly and wouldn't go faster than 40mph. She got it to a shop and the check engine light was throwing the following codes: P0100 P0420 P0732 Now a little search here in the forums told me to check the TPS and the MAF sensors and that this was likely the problem. But all the links are dead on how to do this. Does anyone have a write up? Any other ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks guys! |
Yup it could easily be both things. They are both easy replacements.

MAF.........

Her problem is the MAF sensor, or at least that's what the symptoms point to. How old/new is this new MAF? When did you install? Have you check it and verified the connections, etc?
Also, I must have had a brain shart because I was reading it as if it were your car. Either way, all you need is a new MAF, I'm fairly sure. So you just need to drop it in, not deal with the whole thermistor swap deal, that's only for 02+'s. |

I checked the MAF, didn't replace it but everything seems fine and it looked clean.
Also, I just found out that when it is shuddering and hard to start the TCS light is coming on. I wasn't aware of this. Is this a coil problem? How do I find out which coils are bad if that is indeed the problem? |
I just switched my brothers 2001 anniversary maf into the car and the tcs and slip lights went away. I do believe that the car had/has a faulty maf but think it has two problems. It's still missing. At idle and all the way through the rpms. I think an ignition coil is bad too.
