55 vs 35 Watt HID's

Should I buy the 35 or 55 wat?

I recently bought a 35w kit and the lights wouldnt stop flickering, they also had an orange hue to them, not sure if that was caused by using the wrong wattage.

What do you think?

Its an 01 by the way

Some say 55w is overkill, but it is significantly brighter. The flickering problem could be caused by a lot of things, doubt its the wattage.

less to do with wattage, more to do with faulty hid kit-ballasts go out often

BigOgre Apr 6, 2011 08:36 PM

Ok, thanks guys, ill get the 35 watt

TunerMaxima3000 Apr 6, 2011 08:40 PM

35 watt, for a lot of reasons. The main being 1. more reliable 2. almost the same output as 55 watt

As for the flickering, that can be cheap bulbs too, not just faulty ballasts, etc.

id go with incandescent and not get any flickering or problems

he means that the housings were made for halogen bulbs and therefore are more proficient with halogens in them. (00-01)

02-03 housings are made for hid bulbs to be used and therefore are more proficient with hid bulbs.

reading > me.

I was assuming the OP wasn't such a clown and already had 02+ housings.

:sprint: the way to go if you don't have projectors.

55W is overkill, especially for fogs.

The pic in the sig shows a halogen housing so I am assuming he's putting 55w HIDs in them. :(

NmexMAX Apr 7, 2011 01:13 PM

And it's an 01, so it makes sense.

I have 55w fogs, they're nice and bright and aimed low like they should be. I can drive with just those and my Umnitza angel eyes on at night cause they're really bright.

neither. HID in halogen housings = :007:

F35-JSF Apr 7, 2011 05:02 PM

Will the 02-03 housings fit on an 00?

tedo007 Apr 7, 2011 05:11 PM

Please don't get more than 35w HID. Anything above that wattage is unstable. You will be changing bulbs more often than anything. By unstable I meant when you driving at night time bulbs will automatically turn off on you and you going to have to stop in middle of the road and wait for it to cool down and then turn it back on. I have experience with lot of HID units. To me personally I prefer 35W. Best there is.

I have DDM's 55w and I've had it over a year and never had one problem with the bulbs or ballasts or anything.
