Shifter Knob-What are you running?

So with 90K miles my knob is starting to look rough. Honestly its the only thing that shows any type of wear in my interior. Should I stick with an OEM knob? Its pretty light and I was sure a weighted knob would really help shifting. There is a FAT weighted one on Ebay. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/M1-Ab...#ht_4695wt_941
But its not cheap and I am afraid an aftermarket will interfere with the reverse lock out.

A new OEM knob will look fantastic. $60. Here's a pictures of old vs. new:

this thread needs scottwax to chime in with his T shifter lol

TallTom 06-07-2011 01:27 PM

I should treat myself to a new OEM one. It looks great in Rochester's pic.

036mtmax 06-07-2011 01:45 PM

just ordered the oem 6 speed knob yesterday for 50 bucks..Almost every aftermarket knob i've seen in a 5th gen doesn't look right.

I'm running a stock knob...BUT...it looked pretty bad when I got it. So...I peeled all of the leather off of it. :D

Where did you get a stock 6 speed knob for $50...?

Will the 2002 2003 maxima 6 speed shift knob work on 2000 2001 5 speed shifter?

The AE shift knob is the wart on an otherwise beautiful car.

If it were mine, I'd delete that thing ASAP.

QT1 5MT AE 06-07-2011 05:41 PM

bahahha, i like my AE knob...

Here, I fixed it for you. Although it's probably going to take some getting used to.

:hide:

Probably going to grind Reverse a few times, but 5MT is so 1990.

how can something so wrong be so funny

pimpin02max 06-07-2011 06:07 PM

I definitely need to order me a new OEW one...mine is literally all black now and the leather outer pieces are long gone so the whole shifter is gloss black lol. It honestly doesn't look bad but the center piece is loose

That's the biggest issue with mine at 104k. I will be replacing it with a new OEM one for sure.

dr_rabias 06-07-2011 07:54 PM

mine is not too bad, but when the time comes, i will replace with an OEM one for sure.

SoulEater 06-07-2011 08:03 PM

from normal use? no. it could get scratched up if you have a ring on your fingers. mine get scratched (very very tiny. you will notice it if you look at it from 10 inches away) from a screw driver which i drop it while i was changing my map light bulb.

Rochester 06-08-2011 04:08 AM

Titanium finish, weighted knob on the 5MT... I like that better. On the 5MT.

After years of watching (and occasionally searching) for a better-than-stock knob on the 6MT, I've come to the conclusion that there isn't one.

phatboislim 06-08-2011 04:13 AM

i use to have an AE shift knob, but i have my Ralco weighted shift knob since i did my STS

Gizm0 06-08-2011 05:35 AM

I found out the other day that the R34 skyline has the exact same shifter knob as the 5.5gen...

mysticalpun 06-08-2011 05:51 AM

I got rid of my AE shift knob also, in favor of a weighted Sparco shift knob.

zero2sixtyZ 06-08-2011 07:24 AM

OEM 5.5. Nothing else fits the car better.

OnOiShNo0dl3Z 06-08-2011 01:45 PM

+1 on OEM 5.5 gen knob. Definitely one of my favorite looking shift knobs in the cars I've driven.

Interesting to know it was in the R34 as well.

The AE knob looks Okay, but i don't think its as nice as the 5.5 gen knob.

jowo9 06-08-2011 01:59 PM

OEM 5.5 AUTO shift knob FTW! :hide: :laugh::laugh:

Joel, there appears to be only one gear on your shift knob.
