DEK's, whats the highest MPG you've gotten?
I drove 900 miles this weekend and was really impressed with the gas mileage on my AE.
full tank of 91 octane, cruise control set to 65mph, 5th gear, ac on and 87 degrees outside, 4 adults in the car and trunk full of luggage. Averaged 28mpg highway !!! for what it's worth, knock on wood, car is in top running condition with lots of maintenance done: Bone stock 5mt AE with 90k New NGK V power plugs New K&N filter New PCV valve New yokohama YK tires set to 36psi all around tb cleaned, sea foamed, fuel system cleaned, maf cleaned, coolant flushed with prestone, alignment and balancing + rotation all done a week prior to the trip. I know with ac off and empty trunk with no passengers, i can break 30mpg has anyone been able to receive that much or better? |
i've gotten 30 mpg..but i average about 25-26 mpg now, i use to, before i replaced my coilpack and plugs 22-24
|
Ever though or replacing the knock sensor and the pcv? Seems like a good idea.
|
^it is! forgot about that...i replaced my bad coil pack, plugs and PCV valve at the same time...i gained MPG...FYI i've never changed my air filter since i've had my car...thats 100k + miles ago lol. i've knocked it out, but never changed it.
but i got 30 mpg with leftover luggage and one passenger |
I avg around 28mpg round trip to NC this past weekend. Hope to avg about 30 in the next couple of weeks when I make that trip again.

good to hear. think its possible to come close to that advertised 33 full highway.
thats great man. i think 65mph is the sweet spot. i usually travel around 70 mph when on the highway and about 80 on the interstate |

^thats what i've seen, but i also know that website has bad MPG numbers
|
IIRC the sticker said 22 city 27 highway (in between cities) and there was something about 33 in the footnotes which i believe is for long distances on the interstate.
edit: i had this pic on my comp but once i find the actual sticker, ill read it again. but if you look on the left it says 32, and for comparison with other cars in the same class, it says 33. http://img59.imageshack.us/img59/9327/027cg.jpg "18 and 26 in the city and between" "22 and 32 avg in the highway" can't read it that well |
I hit 31 mpg the other day, pure highway cruise at 60 mph. Just me in the car. Car has a complete tune up, 136,000 miles and a new maf, iacv, pcv, few new coil packs, iridium plugs, JWT pop charger and a catback.

Bone stock with some OEM upgrades but none performance
25 city and 27.5 highway, 01 gxe (I say gxe cause it was governed, but it had a sunroof... wierd) 5mt. |
Dang, I really need to catch up on my maintenance. I don't know, my car is really really really good on the highway, but then when it comes to city, my mileage is around 14ish?
Just realized, this is DEK, I'm a 3.5...but still....I wants gas mileage |
city driving only, around 220 miles /355 km (around 12 mpg) on a tank if im lucky... i have a lead foot though. i wanna know what other auto de-k's are getting

27 cruising 70 in 5th the whole way. No heavy launches (never do anyways....axles are expensive when youre slammed)
|

2011's tho are kinda not the bang for the buck we've know these cars to be. I can't justify paying 40k for one. For that much I'll be signing papers for an STI limited over at the subbie dealership and that car IMO is far superior to the max in every single department. |

the AE itself was 27k and with bose, leather and the other package it was 30k and some change.

Shoot even the base 2012 Impreza is looking like a pretty slick car, at least insofar as their advertised economy, 25/33 for the 5MT, 27/36 for the CVT! Throw in AWD and it's hard to be able to justify another car if you're looking in that low 20K area. My big knock against the Subbies has always been the poor economy if they can compete in that area while keeping AWD and keeping the price competitive then I think they will dominate the 2010s.
Personally, I'm hooked on those STI's like white on rice. And for 40k, it is a no brainer for me. I test drove the '11 max just to see how its evolved and all I can tell you is that i wouldn't be caught dead in one. Just not my type of car anymore and its sad to see it priced so high and marketed as a 4DSC when its still moon lights behind in performance compared to whats available on the market. I'd rather go regular WRX for 35k than max for 25k. |
