What's this "progress" you're talking about? It looks to me like you're done.

Drive the car. Enjoy it.

haha id love too man, i love the look of a low drop on co's...Btw are you running a spacer with your g wheels or are they offset from the factory ? ....if you are how many mills are they ? ....maybe i might spring for a set of bc or tein co's eventually but for nowI just inherited a 99 camry as a beater to be my dd so im parking it in the garage next week and going to try to get my hands on a used utec..... im picking up my ssim and spacers this weekend :D I am going to have my friend make me a 3'' test pipe for me this weekend and im hunting around for a Nice LR maf setup.I made 248 untuned so im hoping with the ssim/spacers/LR maf and the utec im hoping for 265/270..Theres only one way to find out and thats to get her done  I wish you were closer ceffy you seem to know how to tune these cars pretty good and your car seems to be dialed in nicely....Really nice job on the piggy back tuning thread btw i learned alot from that thread.

Nah not yet man

I got a question for you.

After you gutted your precats, did you:

1) Not have a CEL
2) Have a CEL and didn't care
3) Used an O2 Sim
4) Used a spark plug non fouler

I remember reading you said that one of the reasons you got such great numbers after gutting was because the mechanic said the AFR was already near perfect and there was little to do to improve it.

If that's the case, I'm wondering if this is normal with gutted precats. Maybe you wouldn't have to tune since the flow is kind of still similar to stock in some way. I might just be completely wrong, but I'm interested to find out.

I did get a cel for bank 1 and 2 catalyst codes but i have a wjile before i need to get an inspection so i just have not gotten around to doing it yet

I had an O2 sim installed after gutting my precats just a little while ago. It's working perfectly. No CEL.

I know i got to get one for mine asap..Even though i know the car is fine that light pisses me off.Did you ask your mechanic how hard it was to install it ?

infinimax96 Aug 11, 2011 01:08 AM

Did you remove the Rear Beam to paint it or did you just do it while the car was lifted?

I've wanted to paint mine just haven't been sure how to go about it.

I gave him the following printout... here's a PDF of what I had.

...which isn't the best of instructions, but after studying the actual wiring he got it figured out pretty quick.

He actually called me to ask if the SIM also took care of the heat sensor in the secondaries, because he was considering doing away with the O2 sensors entirely. Fortunately, I'd read up enough about this to observe people always keep the O2 sensors connected, although sometimes zip-tied under the engine cover. And that was the answer he needed, which means: No, they only source the signal for the O2.

I'm surprised someone doesn't make an O2 Sim that covers all 3 signals: primaries, secondaries and temp. I'm also surprised that it gets hot enough under the engine cover for the temp sensors in the secondaries not to throw a code. NmexMAX has been running like that for years, though. Go figure.

No i didn't drop it man i just did it up in the air, grinded all the surface rust off and took a spray can my friend had kicking around his shop of bmw cosmos black, applied a few coats and some clear and thats it.

You and I seem to have been helping each other out a fair bit in 2011. It's what makes the Org worthwhile.

In that theme... go buy a G37 next year and stay in touch. :p

It's funny you say that, i noticed that too.I think once you weed through a few of the idiots that are on here and find someone that seems to know what there talking about you can kind of give each other a helping hand. And i would love nothing more than to get a black on black G37 6mt but financially for me right now at this point doesn't make sense :( but maybe for my next car id snag one i always loved them.

You know what? Looking at your beautiful rear beam was the final nail in the coffin. I'm going to work on mine; it has to be done (I'm certain it won't look as good as yours but I have to get rid of the rust).

Very well done.
