R and R'ing my motor

removing and replacing my 215k engine with a 80k one. its a 2000 5-speed SE, im replacing the clutch, plugs, wires, coil packs, just put a new starter on. what else would you replace while the engine is out?

phatboislim Aug 25, 2011 07:13 AM

you're replacing spark plug wires and coil packs...man this ****s gona be fast

NmexMAX Aug 25, 2011 07:16 AM

We have plug wires

Why are you replacing it again? VQ30's can go forever, literally.

phatboislim Aug 25, 2011 07:18 AM

x2 i have 214k and mine sounds better than when i bought it with 117k, no bs

oops guys....im really not a noob to working on engines, just running through what is typical to need replacing when doing this...plus Im a little hungover this morning. anyhow, would you replace the timing chain and tensioner, water pump, thermostat? and yes I have a rod knock in the engine so thats why im replacing it.

Ya but posting every minute because you have a thought which could have been found by search is not cool.

1.) Give us some background information, not just blurt out ZOMMGGZZ!! I'm going to change me engine... For because why again?

2.) Do a little research instead of relying on spoonfeeding. dj's been patient enough with you.

3.) Red tag was with the plug wires statement. C'mon .. :squint:

Now, instead of us needing to go and search through all of your posts (phatboi's got the time, but most of us don't), either link us or explain, in full detail, your issues.

If you do this for your next thread, that will be nice and will uphold the confusion and keep you off my radar.

NmexMAX, I understand how car forums work. I was asking a pretty general question I think. when any of you have replaced your 3.0 5th gen engine what would you replace? what is typical to fail on these engines right around 80k? the car is a 2000 5-speed SE. I bought it knowing that it needed a new engine. it has a rod knock. it starts but dosent stay running. as far as the wires and packs comment....ok, my bust honest stupid mistake. Also, the posting everytime I have a thought, not me I just wanted to get the stupid restricted 15 posts out of the way. Any help would be appreciated guys, Im gonna need some tech help along the way with this car to be a proper DD. thanks in advance.

phatboislim Aug 25, 2011 08:12 AM

overall you've covered everything...i did my waterpump at about 200k cuz it was leaking, other than that..nothing on the car had to be replaced

@ 80k, it's just like new.

My VQ30 has 240k and 16 years on it the only item I've replaced internally (sort of internally) is the water pump and timing chain pensioner, that's it, still going strong and revving to 7200.

amack Aug 25, 2011 09:13 AM

hmm, so should I maybe pull the old motor and rebuild it....Im thinking new stronger internals and turbo set up :D

phatboislim Aug 25, 2011 09:15 AM

or you could do a VQ35 swap

NmexMAX Aug 25, 2011 09:33 AM

Ok this set-up just took the turn that every other engine replacement thread takes.

phatboislim Aug 25, 2011 09:43 AM

 its not my fault, we both told him the engine is fine
