Got Pulled Over For Hid's !!!!!!!

HAHAHHAHAHAHAH, DAMN THIS WAS HILARIOUS

I was coming down the street during dusk hours 6-7pm, everybody had their corner lights on and I had the AUTO feature on, and I pulled up to a light and a SHERIFF was chilling on the other side, this light was long... , but anyways The photo sensor in my car decided it was dark enough for lights, so ON come the lights, I can see the XENONS warming up their usual DEEP BLUE COLOR, and I look up to see the sheriff looking my way since the shine of the HID glared off of his glasses. When the light turns green, the SHERIFF suddenly turns his OH SHI* lights on, and does a U turn and comes after me, so I pull over and ask what the problem was, and he tells me my "BLUE" lights are illegal, I told him what they were, and escorted him to the front of my car, to his surprise the lights were in its solid state (super white) and he says he saw blue, and I tell him, the story on HID's and he laughs and says to me he learns something new everyday, that most people he pulls have the tinted bulbs. He was cool since I work at the POLICE dept, he commented on the car and his partner said he had a 95 maxima 5spd, with exhaust, and talked about the BUCS win last night.

~ Sorry about the length.

Perhaps the police department needs to invest in having the cops go through a CLASS OF CAR CUSTOMIZATION 101:Police: :reading:

So I was right. I always thought when I turn on my HIDs it looks kind of bluish, and after awhile its completely white. So I guess there is nothing wrong with my eyes!!! WooHoo:jump:

In my dad's 740iL the lights are very blue for like a minute and then they get very white.

Is there a way that you can upgrade the factory HID's and make them brighter than stock? I know people have been talking about HID's to their 2000 and 2001 Max. What about upgrading the 2k2 Stock HIDS to be brighter?

clee130 Dec 30, 2001 08:30 PM

You greedy sob... (:p ... pun intended) some of us don't even have have HIDs in our Maximas...

Just like the Maxima's! I guess that's the case with HIDs.
:bonk:

ALL XENON LIGHTS HAVE A REALLY BLUE COLOR WHEN WARMING UP, its the steady state which is white, about 3700K+, if im not mistaken, correct me if im wrong. The 23+K volts of electricity trigger the xenon gas and causes it to light up that BLUE BLUE color, depending on the amount of sodium salts were used in the mixture has some impact on how blue the HID beam is. note the 1st generation OSRAM XENONS (MARKVIII's) are very blue, but have poor life, and poor light output, notice the newer generation (philips, etc) bulbs are more white, which were designed to put out a bit more light while conforming to DOT standards. (im a bit rusty on my xenon info.) pardon me.

They are XENON HID bulbs, and are very blue 6000K! damn! They're called Ultinon's . And are brighter and BLUER than regular XENON HID bulbs. I know they're available in Japan, and have seen Pictures, BIG DIFFERENCE IN COLOR!, Aqua shields are also available for your existing HID bulb, which is made of quality material that is clear blue which fits over the bulb. sorta like blue tinted halogens, but for XENON bulbs. You sacrifice light for color. But the Ultinons are the best bet. You can also buy an HID kit for the fog lamps to get brighter output.

Do you just change the bulb, or is there more to it than just that?

Nope, you just swap the bulb in and out of the socket. Just like halogen bulbs:)

grEDdymax@aol Dec 31, 2001 10:23 AM

So you have to buy the whole set...

No set to buy (ballast, housing ect) you can get the bulbs for about $360 for the pair delivered to your door. Don't let the price lead you into thinking you are buying a set, HID bulbs are expensive no matter where you get them (dealer about $200 for a pair of OEM HID bulbs)
