Idk, current Altima and Maxima are actually pretty similar on interior dimensions.
Maxima sells pretty good so I can't see Nissan getting rid of it. The Maxima is in a good spot. Its for people that want more luxury then an Altima, yet is FWD which despite how a lot of us would take a rwd G37. There are alot of people that only want FWD.

Exactly. When you sit in the Altima, it feels uninspired and cheap. And it should. It is.

Salesmen can up-sell an Altima customer into a Maxima. But the other way around...? I don't think so.

Not up-sell but downsell. You don't qualify for the Maxima but look at this Altima. The coupe with a V6 is speedy and so-on. But still, not a Maxima.

I still would not buy an altima either. Or honestly any new car since they are just getting bigger and bigger.

Off topic, but I wouldn't buy another new car either. Only because you can buy one 3-4 years old for half the price. The brother of one of the guys at work just bought a 2007 G35 coupe 6m with 26k miles on it for 25 grand out the door. Bastard. Even came with 4 winter tires.

this has been years in the making. While the 7gen Max is brutally gorgeous- it is a shell of it's former self. Nissan pushed the Altima to take it's place as the sporty 4D and the G is biting hard into the Maxima sales.

Hate to say it but unless the new Max gets a proper gear box or becomes RWD/AWD- it will die off.

Agreed, almost. For the mature or family driver the G25 will offer all and more of the luxury of a Max. It will not however, offer the rush of torque and power of the Max for the spirited driver.

Won't going AWD in the Maxima platform require a new-ish transmission? I'd imagine the Infiniti AWD trans would work and cut down on costs..etc.

Maxima gone in the future? No way! I heard from that same reliable source that Nissan is planning the 35th Anniversary Edition for the 2016 model year. RWD/AWD with an 8 speed auto, full size vehicle (about Lexus LS 400 size), probably using the 4.5 V8 standard and optional supercharged 5.6 V8, looking to compete in the Audi A8 and BMW 7 series classes with prices comparable to those. Altima will just be taking over as the main mid-size sedan as you can get all of the Maxima features in an Altima anyhow.

How about we do for the Maxima what Toyota did with the Prius, Make a new line with a bunch of different models and body styles to fill gaps that noone knew were there....Actually that was a joke at first, but now I kinda like the idea.

Think about it. In the US product line, the entire Nissan line, except for :bowdown:Godzilla:bowdown: is FWD. The entire Infiniti line is RWD/AWD. Obviously Nissan doesn't want to product line to mix. That's why the I35 and G20 were nixxed.:sadpace:The I35 was a tough sell because it was 99% a Maxima that graduated from mustard to gray poupon. The G20 was a nicely spiced up Sentra which, I thought, distinguished itself from the Sentra quite well.

The Maxima is entering a space smack in the middle of this arrangement. It will be very interesting to see what the next Maxima will be.
