Valve Cover's
So found out my rear VC is leaking. Just bought 05 VC and Gasket. I have to replace my LIM spacer so I will do everything at the same time. Things I can't understand is EM-45 of the service man.
"a. Tighten bolts 1 to 10 in that order to 0.96 to 2.96 N·m (0.10 to 0.30 kg-m, 9 to 26 in-lb). b. Then tighten bolts 1 to 10 as indicated in figure to 7.33 to 9.33 N·m (0.75 to 0.95 kg-m, 65 to 82 in-lb)." I only have a wench that reads in ft-lb's not in-ib's. Does harbour freight carry a in-Ib wrench? Or do have you guys just tighten them hand tight with a wrench? 9 to 26 and 65 to 82 is a large spread. Not like 9 to 11 or 79 to 82. What have you guys done it to? |
You're on the right track... you need an in/lb torque wrench. Pretty sure those bolts will snap easily when over-torqued.
I believe there's also a technique to follow with gasket sealant on the corners of the VC, to help avoid leaking. The corner over the alternator is prone to leakage. |

That they do, they take barely anything...probably the equivalent of 2 ft lbs..LOL

Definitely use the gasket sealer on the 'front' part of the engine under the valve cover...front being the side closest to the passenger wheel.
There is a write-up in this section. |

Just be careful when tighten and make them snug. I wouldn't waste my money on buying that type of tool from harbor freight, its all junk.

Ernie I'll text ya in a bit. |
Just hand tighten them things nice and snug but not too tight.......I would not waste buying no tool to do those tiny bolts with. You cant tighten the crap out of them because they will snap on you and use sealant.
