Throttlebody and UM

I looked at the FSM and in the EC section page 10, It doesnt show in the diagram, only a gasket is shown. In between the throttlebody and manifold, there is a metal plate, it sits in the manifold itself and looks like it diverts air. Does anyone know what it is/benefits

Its the VIAS, and it just gets in the way, most people discard them and attach a block off plate

Thanks for the reply, Im not talking about the variable intake though. What im talking about is the plate that is in between the throttlebody and UM, its a black plate that mounts inbetween the two.The throttlebody mounting bolts go through it into the UM. , it has kinda a lip on it, if i get a chance to take it apart today ill take a pic. Sorry i should have been more clear on what i was getting at.

Possibly an aftermarket spacer? Pics would definitely help.

haha, no! I know there is the metal gasket!

throttlebody, gasket, this metal plate i speak of that looks kinda spoonish, UM.. It has a lip on it like a quarter of a tube kinda, the tuby part sits at the bottom of the UM .. It enters into the UM, i obviously suck at explaining things! I will take a pic and figure out how to post it on my lunch.

I'm guessing you're talking about 14040. All I can find is Nissan's usual cryptic 'Adapter - Manifold'. No idea what it's for though.

Oddly enough, the diagrams for 2000, 2002, and 2003 don't show this part.

Im sure it has something to do with the EGR, the base part that enters into the manifold has a slit in it to allow room for the egr tube to enter the manifold, it must be some kinda of back pressure preventer,or diverts the air coming in through the TB past the egr. But i thought 01's (which is the only diagram that has a part # and picture of it) do not have an egr? Or is that just the AE's that dont.. I removed mine out of curiousity just to see if there is any difference in driving.
