Picture I don't know
Could someone help me out might this be the RMS or is it the lower pan gasket leak or upper pan gasket?
Where I marked the 1,2. Is the 1 RSM, or it is 2? Could someone tell me what is 1 and 2.:confused: 155k miles on the car, living in Arizona. What would it be? Thanks everyone!:) http://s1297.beta.photobucket.com/us...tml?sort=3&o=0 http://s1297.beta.photobucket.com/user/wasdpp13/media/leadingpic.png.html?sort=3&o=0 Kind of have to copy and past to get through the link. From what I see, #1 is your Timing case, #2 is the bellhousing (engine to tranny)
Neither leak is probably coming from those components themselves. More likely there is something ABOVE them leaking and it's simply working it's way down to the lowest point (because gravity works). |
1 is where it would be leaking from if its the rear main seal . 2 looks like the trans . is it oil ? or trans fluid thats leaking ?

thats not the timing cover side . 1 is where you would see the oil leak coming from if its leaking from the rear main seal its behind the flywheel it could be leaking out of there and getting oil on the trans which is 2

Today I used my hand to wipe the drop @ 1,2 they look brownish to me. I am thinking its the engine oil (could it be?). So is it a big chance it might be the RMS? I do have my PS fluid leak, but its a minor leak I can see my PS suction hose is wet (not the pressure PS hose). Might it be the problem the that causes those leaks? I can see my passenger side LCA is a bit wet (could it be the Power steering fluid that is leaking from the PS suction hose that caused my passenger side LCA wet?):bawling: Thanks! Thanks! |
Output shaft seals
for cv axles. & RMS |
EDIT: I didn't look close enough when I posted. #1 IS your Bell housing, which could be your RMS. But still look at stuff above it.
Not sure, but #2 looks like the Differential case, if so, Professor is right, that is probably bad Axel Seals, which is PROBABLY caused by bad bearings. |

Your first step is making sure that there are no leaks ABOVE those spots. Until you do that, you're just wasting time/energy speculating. It could be something VERY simple.

[QUOTE=wasdpp;8682029]Does a bellhousing leak meaning its a RMS? most likely
Today I used my hand to wipe the drop @ 1,2 they look brownish to me. I am thinking its the engine oil (could it be?). So is it a big chance it might be the RMS? if its leaking from rear main seal it will come out of where you have it circled as #1 and when you are driving the air will make it spray on other stuff like #2 or you can look at your axle seals and make sure that not leaking but if its brown its most likely your rms |
individually wipe both surfaces and smell the oil. do you have a manual transmission or auto? Also like has been recommended check up top, check and make sure something like the valve cover isn't leaking, start with simple, rear mains are not quick jobs

Also, I got the same issue in my 01 Max (yep, with Automatic too). But after a closer inspection the leak it's minimal, only tearing 1 or 2 drops of engine oil at month without stain the floor where I park her. This happened before and after I begin to use Synt Oil, but after the use of a little bit of an oil additive I can barely see a single drop of oil after a month. |
