Received my new wheels! But they won't fit???

Did you guys know that Wheelfire has a 100% fitment guarantee? Did you also know that they charge a 20% restocking fee (about $225 in my case) and you have to pay to ship them back if they don't fit (lord knows how much that will be)?

Maybe I'm just an idiot and one of you may know something I don't. I go to put the first wheel on my passenger rear, and the center hub will not fit through (about a 1/2 inch away from the rotor), so it rests on the rounded edge. They did send some hub rings (picture below) but they do nothing to center the wheel at all, actually worse with it. I called Wheelfire and the guy had me check for some number on the inside of the rim (ET 45) and said it should fit and "maybe" I should go to a professional installer.

Am I missing something here people? Would spacers work to correct this?

hey man,

i ran into something similar when i bought my winter wheels. it turned out my wheels were for a honda accord instead of my 03 Max SE and they have different center bore widths, but the same bolt pattern of 5 on 114.3 (4.5in). the honda was 64mm and our cars are 66.1 so they won't fit.

i ended up putting the bridgestone blizzaks on my stock 17in rims and buying a set of tenzo r tracers for my summer rims. sold the honda rims.

NmexMAX Feb 26, 2013 12:01 PM

Makes you wish you did more research on here.

5x114.3 / 661.mm or greater center bore. The rear hub has a history of doing that, and i needed to modify moy wheels for a set to fit, and in one case, needed a spacer.

Chris Gregg Feb 26, 2013 01:05 PM

If it was their error, and with a 100% fitment gaurentee, there should be no return charge. That should only apply if you changed your mind or the like. I'd argue that. Addressing the center bore gives you ammunition. Good luck.

MoncefA33 Feb 26, 2013 01:46 PM

Def make them waive the restocking fee, make sure they understand that if they try to stick you with 20%, Maxima.org members are gonna burn their facility to the ground.

Men, prepare your pitchforks and torches.

I have Guns and Napalm and we'll bring Crusher and a drum of syrup!

JWatZ Feb 26, 2013 03:00 PM

It's the bore. Took it up to a local tire shop and the guy re-assured me that I'm not a derpa derp. He tried a 5/8 spacer, but it was a bit scetchy... only four turns on the lugs. Called Wheelfire back while I was there and when they started giving me a hard time I put the guy in the shop on. Fed Ex is picking them up tomorrow and they are being shipped out to their wheel place to increase the bore size. All free of charge, but it will be another week (ordered these originally on the 12th). They did offer me to exchange, but I spent a couple hours searching through until I found something I liked. Plus doing an exchange is the easy way out for them, so I want them to (literally) pay for their mistake.

btw, NmexMax, why would I have to research if they are only supposed to show fitments for my vehicle? I get what you're saying but I ordered specifically for my car's year, make, model, and submodel. They should check that before they ship.

Thanks again everyone, glad to know I'm not the only one who's had this issue.

cjandura Feb 26, 2013 03:11 PM

Ya gets whatta u pay fer!

mrjasonlyrics Feb 26, 2013 05:07 PM

That sux man. Never bought rims online nor will I ever for the same reason. A lot of times you might get wrong order, back order, incorrect tire size, and the list goes on. Stuff like that is better off being bought locally. My only suggestion is to take it to a wheel shop and see if they can correct the issue. They might be able to suggest spacers or something. It's a learning experience bro and you won't have to go through this again.

Not like I bought the cheapest I could find (and I went on numerous sites and 4 local tire stores). I dished out close to $1,200 for these. Could of been ballin' with some chrome 22's on stretched rubber bands for cheaper than that, but I'm not trying to compensate for anything ;). Yeah, they are not Ray's, OZ, BBS. TSW's, or Nismo's but they suit my taste and budget. Plus it was the retailers error, not the quality of the product.

This is my seventh online wheel order, the second with Wheelfire, and the very first issue I've ever had (minus missing center caps from CarID). Most of my local shops don't stock racing/tuner style rims and charge much more ordering through them vs. online.

It is what it is. They bored 64mm instead of 66mm. Crap happens, they are going to fix it.

op glad you got the retailer to work it out. post pics of the final install

how can you have such a jaded view on ordering wheels online when you haven't ordered online once? I respectfully disagree with you. There are plenty of reputable online wheel shops. How do you think most people get their wheels ? think about it.

What is this a fighting game:confused: I've heard horror stories when it comes to wheels being ordered, whether it's wrong size, pattern, offset, different size, back order, damaged during shipping and the list goes on. I'm saying for these reasons "I" won't order online because it could take something as simple as not doing your homework to be screwed big time. I never once said that it can't go smooth, i'm saying when you order large items online and stuff don't fit your problems are just beginning, which in the OP's case is

Glad they are sorting it out for you.

Hub bore is an easy thing to overlook, or forget about when looking for rims. There's a lot of stuff to know. Don't be hard on yourself, just remember this in the future, and always ask what the Center bore is before you purchase, especially if it's not shown on the site, etc.
It's the companies fault, they are the "experts", not you.

MoncefA33 Feb 27, 2013 10:43 AM

So you mean I got to put all this stuff back in my explosives shed?

TunerMaxima3000 Feb 27, 2013 11:36 AM

well, you don't HAVE to, there are plenty of reasons to burn stuff :gotme:

If that's his opinion that's his opinion. I personally don't have a decent local shop, if he does and that's his preference good for him! Plus my post only solidifies his concerns.

Not yet, let me see what I'm dealing with when I get them back. Have an unsettling feeling that the bolt holes for my center caps will be drilled out when they increase the bore.

5th gen dd Mar 1, 2013 10:24 AM

Highly unlikely a 2mm difference will affect the mounting holes for the center caps. We're talking only 1mm per side. It's not uncommon for people to take wheels to machine shops to widen the center bore for custom applications. You may have been able to negotiate taking the wheels to a local machine shop to alter the bore and have them compensate you what they charge. Would save the hassle of shipping them off. Causing a greater chance of them being lost, damaged, etc. Regardless, there's no excuse if they guarantee fitment.

Shows how poor their R&D is if they are sending hub centric rings with wheels that are already too small for the hub...:banghead:

Well said bro. I would of negotiated with them to have them compensated me to have the issue corrected. This method would of put extra cash in your pocket reducing the actual value of the rims. There would of been no way they would know the cost. Could of gone to a shop, get an estimate, give them a higher estimate and when they put pen to paper and calculate the cost of shipping/handling, the labour involved they would of definitely given you what you quoted them. That my friend would be winning...

I know 1mm each side won't make a difference, assuming they won't over drill. They would only credit $100 if I picked a shop to do it. The only shop I could find to do it wanted $55 a wheel. Thought about paying out of pocket for the difference but why should I? Plus I'm on a strict budget for the car (as per my wife) and that cuts into my NWP mods and tint.

Exactly why I posted my experience. Never had an issue like this before and never would have thought to question bore size with a company that preaches a 100% fitment guarantee. Good luck man.

66.1 center bore to be correct;)

Don't forget that one tenth of a millimeter. Most women agree that it makes a difference

UPDATE: So last week the guy said he would have them back to me by Tuesday (tomorrow). Haven't heard anything (shipping info) so today I call. They have them, "might" get them over to the drill shop today, and "could" be shipping back out either Friday or Monday. Did I mention that I ordered these on 2/12/13? Assuming they fit when I get them back it will be about a month! The first time I ordered through these guys I had them at my door in four days, set and ready to go. This will be my LAST purchase with Wheelfire! Tell your friends to stay away from them too!

Prophecy99 Mar 5, 2013 09:22 AM

in the end it was just some bad luck, glad it worked out and the supplier corrected their mistake. Post pics

Doesn't matter if I'm ordering here in the states or out of the country. If my order is significantly beyond the given ship window that's reason to complain. I'm a whiny American. 3-7 business days turned into two weeks. Now a "week at the most" fix of their error is going to take another two plus weeks. Wah wah wah. Mericha! That's how we roll. Complain and never fix things. How would us American's survive without something to complain about???

JWatZ Mar 8, 2013 01:22 PM

So the Wheelfire drama continues. They can't open up the wheels, so they offered me a refund or upgraded exchange. They wouldn't let me get the Ace Alloy Convex or TSW Interlagos... so I went with these: http://www.wheelfire.com/scontent/Wh...icleOption=GLE
(including a Nexen N3000 tire upgrade) Hope to have them soon, and I'll throw pics up in the wheel and tire thread if anyone is interested.

Nexen's are not exactly top of the line, but I've had them before and they have decent grip and tredwear (wife's old Camry, on 19" ADR's, got about 13,000 out of them). Still beter than Delinte, Nankang, and Westlake though... I assume anyway, never heard of them.

I bought my wheels used. Came with hercules raptis wr1 tires. The previous owner ran them for one summer. Everything I read for reviews said they are junk. Still, $600 for pretty much new wheels and tires was a steal.

Received the Tenzo's today. Pics up in the 5th Gen Wheel/Tire thread.
