Compressor engaging but blowing hot air
 

A strange situation for me. My daughter's 2001 is blowing hot air with the compressor engaging and not cycling at all. Checked the line and gage shows it is full of freon. What could this be? Anytime I have seen a compressor engaging it has always put out cold air. Any ideas?

Are you an a/c guy that has gauges and would know what you are doing?

I would do the old fashioned test and grab on to the one pipe from the compressor and see if it is cold. The next possibility is that the air mix door in the air ducts under the dash may be directing the air flow through the heater core.

Does this this car have auto climate control? If so, run the self diagnostic.

No, I'm not an A/C guy by any stretch. I did put my hand on the line and it was hot. This car does have climate control. I thought about the airflow being diverted and will check that. As far as the gauge check, I had a friend come over with his stuff and do that. He informed me it was full.

Did he check the high and low side? If the compressor isn't cycling like you said you should have low pressure on the high side.

I am having a similar issue. I just purchased the car last Saturday and have not have "cold" A/C aty any point. I am doing some of my own troubleshooting to find the cause right now also and will keep you posted on what I find on my end.

I also have had trouble with my ac and its the one part of the car I know very little about. Any insight will help

Is it possible for a valve in one of the lines to be stopping the flow of freon? A check valve so to speak? Fans are working OK on mine.

You should probably take it to a qualified automotive A/C technician who can hook up gauges etc and do a proper diagnosis. A proper running system blowing cold air will have a (compressor) hot discharge line going to the outside condensor and a cold (larger) suction line coming from the evaporator under the dash. Just because you have the clutch engaged on the compressor and the shaft appears to be turning does not mean that the compressor is functioning properly. Could also be a problem with the blend doors or refrigerant charge. Mine has always worked so I have never had the opportunity to troubleshoot it and see how a Nissan system functions. I would hate to have to dust off my brain and repair my own after been retired from the trade after working 34 years.
