Vacuum problems after changing rear valve cover gasket
 

Last weekend I changed out my rear valve cover gaskets and I ran into a few problems

1) When removing the upper hose to the heater core, the stem cracked into the hose. So I read that I could just bypass the heater core with a U connections from the top hose to the bottom. Did that no problems

2) When removing this hose from this L shaped cap (not exactly sure what it is) the stem cracked into the hose. Can I just remove that cap and replace it or so I have to change out the whole Intake Manifold?

3) I couldn't figure out where this hose goes?

4) The biggest mistake, when removing the breather hose on the rear valve cover (not the one that connect the two valve covers together, the one on the tranny side of the motor), yet again the stem crack into the hose. So I tried, RTV around the stem and attached the hose. It holds up , but with the car on you can hear it leaking. So it looks like just because of this, I'm going to have to replace the valve cover, the gasket and redo this job all over again. Someone please tell me there's another way

Oh yea the car is idling 1-1.2K, most likely because of that vacuum leak from the valve cover. I'm hopping if I fix those other 2 hoses then she'll be fine and I won't have to replace the valve cover

Sadly you might have to replace the rear valve cover to correctly seal the vacuum leak but go with the hoses first since they do get brittle and crack after time so never a bad idea...

For your 2nd question you should be able to just replace that plastic piece by itself but hard to tell from looking at the parts breakout image.

As for the 3rd question you have about where the hose goes it goes into the black vacuum box thats right underneath your hand in the picture at the very top of it right above the bigger hose.

In the pic you currently have the incorrect hose plugged into the spot where it goes. the one in the pic with no clamp on it doesn't go there and should be removed and that hose plugged into its spot since it for the fuel system vent.

As for the hose you currently have plugged into that spot i think that the Transmission vent tube and you might be sucking up transmission fluid with it that way.

The vent hose should just be left unplugged since it just vents to engine bay.

What do you think about drilling through the valve cover, and doing something like what this guy did? Just instead of the IM, the valve cover

Just replace the rear valve cover with a 6th gen maxima's. It's cheaper and designed better.

Did you reuse the intake manifold gasket or did you get a new one? Reusing the intake gasket after removing the intake to access the rear valve cover can cause vacuum leaks.

I don't think those will fit with a 2000 UIM

I did reuse the original gasket, I don't think that's where the leak is but today I pick up another intake manifold that was in better condition than mine when I put that one on ill put a new gasket and update
