87, 89, 91, what's best?

I have an '03 SE with 146k miles. I bought it a few months ago, and I'm still trying to figure out if she's burning gas or not. I hear that's quite common. It looses about half a gallon every 13 miles. It does have a leak in the fuel injector (I'm replacing the seal this weekend). Hopefully that'll solve that problem. The last time I had the injector changed, my mechanic used Chevron 91. My questions are: should I keep using that? Is it better than 89? What's the difference? What would be the most recommended octane for this car? Additive blend? Any insight on this will be appreciated as I am changing the gas this weekend.

No, the common problem with 5 gen maxima is burning oil not GAS. You need to use the highest octane possible, I use 93 octane, but some places only have 91 but thats fine. It says what to use right on the inside of your gas door. Try to use Chevron or shell gas.

1. Wtf???
2.You're changing the gas out?
3. You measure gas usage in 1/2 gallon increments??
4. Use 93 octane. Ethanol free if possible.
5. Do you ever measure your actual OIL??
6. Be honest....are you high??

yeah...the car needs to burn gas to move :tard:

89, 90, and 91 are just anti-knock indexes. basically, if you run too low of octane your engine can make a pinging sound from the pistons. if its a hot day, youre going uphill, and driving a vehicle that needs premium (91) yet you have 89 in it, its gonna almost sound like an knocking engine. pre-det like that can damage your pistons

5th gen guys know more than me on them, but as far as i know only 92-94 SE and 7th gen Maximas call for 91 in the user manual, maybe 6th gens. otherwise, theres no benefit to running 91 in a car that will not ping running 89

best thing to use is ethanol free gas, Nissan injector o-rings are allergic to ethanol. up here in Canada i know at least for sure Esso 91 and Shell 91 are ethanol free. thats the only reason i run Esso 91 in all of my vehicles. otherwise AFAIK the lower grades have ethanol
