Rebuild or replace transmission?

2000 Se,@180k, rebuild or buy a new transmission?

Chris Gregg 10-28-2013 07:59 PM

Depends on how rest of car is holding up and condition of the engine. Otherwise a good car? Then buy a used tranny.

Had it since '02,have replaced damn near everything except the engine & transmission...

Then I'm not sure anyone's advise is going to help. From an outside perspective, a good car that needs a tranny appears like a minimal investment to keep the car or be able to sell it for the most return. But, if its become a money pit, then sell as is for a little $$ or part out with the newer parts as a bonus for buyers.

Either way, it sounds like you're done. Seems like maybe you've already decided just hesitant to pull the trigger.

Rebuilt or used transmission

Maybe pertaining to the question, I would like to know what members think about rebuilt vs used transmissions.
I fear I'm starting to slip at 165kms. Second to third can be slow with a wind down at wot.
What kind of range do people typically get out of their 5th gen auto transmissions?

Used transmission is my vote. www.car-part.com

Going on 137k on mine right now. 245k on my 95.
