Weird miss fires, hard starts AND NOW NO RED LINE!!!

Ok, 2000 Maxima 5 speed has been hard is hell to start lately, I put new Cam sensor in it,crank sensor in it one under pulley and MAP sensor..same problem. Only check engine light code was o2 sensors...i got it all fixed went for a ride and the random miss fires are still their! i went to red line it and she went to 8k!!

Yes i did a few pulls going to 7500Rpm but this is kinda scary, whats going on? Prior to this i was on the Car gauge APP i put timing back to stock and idled her up a tad bit.

Im lost:mad:

on down shifts it was spitting fire.

Really? Nobody

The RPM signal comes from the CPS, and you replaced it as well as the crank pulley itself, I bet something is off somewhere there and it's not getting a good reading. What does your app say your RPM is?

Try reinstalling the CPS, clean in and around where it's at.

TravisCadello 01-09-2014 12:16 PM

No, I replaced the CPS BY the Pulley and the cam sensor, but not the one on tranny side. it has hard starts takes almost 25seconds to start then smells like gas strong, miss fires at WOT around 3k to 5k. plugs show to be running lean at WOT. and when i woke up this morning the stock red line was back.

the motor was most deftly reeving as far as i would let it, i did 45mph in 1st gear usually it red lines at 35mph.

Have you replaced the O2 sensor? I had the same misfire symptoms and begun throwing multiple codes. I replaced both camshaft position sensors, had a code for the VIAS sensor so I replaced that as well. What finally fixed my issue was after replacing the O2 and performing the Air/Fuel Ratio Relearning procedure.

Unplug the crank sensor and try starting it. Then, plug that back in, unplug the cam sensor and try starting it. Any change?

TravisCadello 01-12-2014 03:02 PM

Any change in what? ive already done that it dont even try to start with those off.

I got codes today.

p0304-Cyl 4 Miss fire.
P1320-Powertrain
p0105-Manifold absolutely Pressure- Barometric pressure circuit

Really. Car should start with the crank sensor unplugged. If it doesn't the sensor isn't the issue. Same goes for the cam sensor. If you replaced the MAP sensor and still have a MAP sensor code, sounds like either a harness or ECM issue.

00-01 Maximas won't start with the CkPOS unplugged.

The 02+ models will.

Yeah i was about to say, because all my 4th gens and this one wont. almost like they all have to work together to run.

Check your Fuel Pressure Regulator and Fuel Dampener. Pull the vacuum lines and check them. If there's gas in the vacuum lines, replace them both.

I spent 8 months fighting every sensor, knob, button, and valve. Turns out the engine was pretty much flooding itself out when trying to start. The smell of gas is what finally made me think this was the problem.

TravisCadello 01-13-2014 12:28 PM

Already did that, their bone dry. both.
