2000 Maxima GLE won't crank

Hello guys,

2000 Max GLE 180K miles A/T

Yesterday I had issue with the car turning on so I did noticed the battery was dead because I'd hear the clicking sound and it just didn't go. Had the battery recharged - it turned on but after shutting it off. Won't go.

Recharged battery overnight - multimeter reads 12.6V on the battery - thats a good charge. Put it into the car and I don't even hear clicking (crank) starter isn't firing. I do hear a tick on the pass side and thats about it. No crank.

1) Checked all fuses - all seem to be ok
2) Getting power inside - all accessories work
3) Checked for codes - no codes at all

Any suggestions before I go and replace the Starter (if its the problem)?

Thanks my friends :)

Starter issue... with the amount of miles you have, it is normal. Hit the starter with a tube to see if it engages again. If not you will need to replace it, not difficult to do.

I will try that right now and see if it has any effect.

Thank you very much for the quick reply :)

Did you have someone try to start it while you smacked it? You have to give a few good wacks also WHILE trying to start it. I had this issue before and it started right up when the tow guy hit it few times with a massive screw driver/crow bar style tool. I have replaced it since and no problems.

FYI: If you have alternate transportation just remove it (takes maybe 30 mins) and have it bench tested at your local parts store (free service).
