new rear caliper
I had a bad caliper in the rear on my 01 so I replaces it but when I started bleeding the brakes I noticed that it doesnt go back it stays locked. the other side doesnt . Do you think I got a bad one? the piston turns fine and seems to be smooth.

I'm confused on what you mean when you say it doesn't come back after you bleed it. How about some more detailed info on everything going on?

I had a problem with a rear right side brake. I heard terrible grinding si I took it off and the pad was completely gone and the piston was all the way out and would not go back . Note that the other side the pad was only half worn.
So I changed the caliper and and the pads and rotors on both sides and the car drives and the wheel spins but I get terrible excessive heat on that side and a smell like burning when i drive. My mechanic said i should have changed the hose that maybe the fluid isnt flowing properly . Anyway to test? Any other ideas? Is there a reason why the posts are showing newest first? |

Did you remove, clean and lube the guide pins before you put the brakes back together?
|
The caliper and pins are new and seem to ride freely.
|
I am with njmax on this, seems like you have a lubrication problem. new doesn't mean it was lubricated properly. Double check that you have adequate lubrication. Any brake job you perform you should always clean and lubricate.

And you bled the brakes until you no longer saw any air bubbles correct?
On a side note it looks like something easy to build. Should I take the mechanics advice and change the hose or is that just a grab at some cash. |
can Someone help please any ideas?
I cant drive the brake is burning |
I still believe the slide pins are the culprit. I actually take them to a bench grinder to ENSURE they are fully clean.
Also, clear out the hole in the torque member where the pins slide into. Lot of gunk builds up in there. Replace if you need to. The 'new' caliper you replaced could also be poorly reman'd. |
Changed the caliper and it seems to ride better. Although when I spin the wheel off the ground it doesnt spin as easily as the other side. The other side the pads are in contact with the rotor but arent putting any pressure. When I spin The side with the new caliper to me looks like it is slowing down much more quickly. I took it to my mechanic and he said it looks fine to him. I am going to watch the wear on the pads after i drive a little
|
I would also do a proper bedding process.
I remember when njmaxseltd bedded my brakes wayyy back in the day - the rotors came back blue and smoking! :D |
It just occurred to me that one of your parking brake cables could be seized up forcing your brakes in slightly. Remove the cable from the rear caliber and see if you notice a difference while you rotate it in the air.

any opinions on the reverse bleeder http://www.brakebleeder.com/products...brake-bleeder/ seems like something easy to make . they have one that connects to a compressor also but the parts look like off the shelf. |
id say seized parking brake cables, i had a brand new caliper and line replaced by a shop and the caliper froze the very next freaking day.
Parking Brake Cables need to be cleaned out each end and lubricated i have had this problem over a year to two year and it always points to the cables. |
its easy to test. Just disconnect the cable and use your brakes. Which I did and it wasnt the cable. It was the caliper
