broke down 2003 maxima

Hey I have a 2003 maxima and the other day I was cruising on the highway and my foot would be on the accelerator and I would get no power for a few seconds. This continued to happen on and off for 5 minutes until I wasn't fast enough to be on the highway amd pulled over and it then stalled once I was stopped. Wouldn't Start for half an hour waiting for tow truck, then started once I got it dropped off at my house but only ran for about 3 and a half minutes. I'm hoping it's just the fuel pump. Hopefully someone knows if this is a regular occurring incident for this car or what.

Possible cam or crank sensor...Do you have a CEL?

john2590 09-28-2014 10:59 AM

Yes the cel light is on.

find a scanner and get the code... that way you will know what wrong. You can get them at Amazon...http://www.amazon.com/s/?ie=UTF8&key...l_2z39ftedo1_b

Sounds like cam sensor shorting out from oil in it. Getting the code should confirm.

Go to a damn auto store and have them scan it and get the exact code.
Unless...

i'd advise you to stop driving the car as if it is the sensor in that case, it just gonna get worse & the car will no longer run for any longer than 10 minutes

i was dumb enough to keep driving it & had to end up getting it towed to the shop. luckily i had CAA lol

Turns out it was an issue with the evaporative system. And the actual problem was a faulty purge valve.
