failed smog due to system not ready have some questions

hey guys new member here and need help

failed Cali smog in my 2000 Maxima due to OBD SYSTEM NOT READY

got me an OBD2 scanner and 2 codes are flashing ( CAT and EVAP )

drove around for 300 miles trying to complete drive cycle but still CAT and EVAP refuse to set

i even tried to start from scratch and unplug the battery for few hours then did the DRIVE CYCLE again and all sensors set but the CAT and EVAP

i know in cali 1 sensor bad will pass..

here is the print out of smog paper they gave me which shows that the vehicle PASSED the drive test

First of all...why did they do the emissions (sniffer test)? It isn't required...

New Cali smog law is visual inspection and code check only. You can pass with ONE system monitor in "not-ready" status. The fact you have two is why you didn't pass which you said in your post.

There is a section in the Nissan FSM emission control section that discusses the "SYSTEM READINESS TEST (SRT) CODE" and how to reset it. Download the Nissan FSM from the link below for your vehicle.

http://boredmder.com/FSMs/Nissan/Maxima/2000.5/

You want to download the EC section and the system readiness code starts on page 74.

As did I...no dyno required for me, just a visual inspection. They are really cracking down visually because the guy didn't want to pass me due to my home made short ram intake with no carb sticker. I had to put my stock intake back on before he would pass me.

My car is a high emitter due to not passing the dyno in previous years. So...I'm really scratching my head why they had you do a dyno. Go read the smog thread in west coast forum. The regulations do not require dyno on OBII cars.

I would say next time you check around and see who is not doing the dyno as it isn't a requirement.

My wife's car didn't need a dyno either and that was about a year ago.
