HARD TO DIAGNOSE STARTING PROB SOME HELp please!
hey whats up thanks for viewing my post
well i have a 2001 nissan maxima with the 3.0 engine lately i been haveing a hard starting problem ( cold weather round 20s 30s) car cranks for about 10 seconds before it starts ( first start of the day and does it when sitting for a long period of time) and when it starts there is no sputter whatsoever idle is very smooth and steady no lights besides my evap light turns on sometimes have not done anything recently to the car besides adding more grounds that is all if you guys have some input please lmk these are some possible things i have thought off - worn Fuel Pump (not building enough pressure for a cold weather start up) - temp sensor - something with the EVAP ? thank you for some of your input in advance thanks:) |
i ment my cheek engine light would throw a evap code sometimes but it would happen before this issue started

any other ideas? These cars are PICKY PICKY PICKY for some reason Maybe have it retested? |
I'd consider replacing the fuel pressure regulator. It's found within the tank in the fuel filter housing. It's a pretty simple replacement. I had a similar starting issue that was fixed by replacing the regulator. My car would crank hard for 10-15 seconds and then start and run/idle without issue.

thank you il replace the filter to i guess while im there its worth a try thanks man i appreciate it.
and dam thats alot of alternators lol that sucks |
May be your ignition switch...or have you ever drop the transmission...i have the same problem on my 95...i dropped the transmission...sand mating surface....and the problem went awway....now i thing the tab in the ignition switch is loose...ill put some tape on it...like somebody here said it....its not hard to dropped the transmission...just taking the time to do it.

Did you check the cam sensor between the transmission and the engine ?(the one that is right behind the radiator, near the front eng. mount)...In cold weather/road salt states, the road start corrodes the aluminum and pushes out the cam sensor a bit. I've seen many maximas with starting issues due to this. Try removing the cam sensor and clean the corrosion off engine block/transmission.

my camshaft sensor is good i replaced it a few months ago and the surface is clean not all rusty, quick question what are other ways of knowing if the FPR is bad i checked it yesterday by pulling the vacume line there was no fuel in it so i dont think the insides are shot what is another way of diagnosing it?

The cam sensor is next to the motor mount on the side of the engine correct? on the left side? or is there 2 cam sensors?
