Stuck in first gear auto.

Hi Guys,
New to the site and having a issue with my transmission on my 2000 Maxima in Australia. Today the transmission has gone from great and smooth to not changing out of first gear. I read on another site that you can reset the ecu by disconnecting the battery for 15 mins to reset the shift points. I did this and it worked for about 3 kilometers then back to the old problem. All fuses are ok. Could this be a shift solenoid or speed sensor problem. Any advice welcome. By the way, fluid is in good order with no burnt smell.

1st Gear

Hi Guys from Australia,
I am new to the site and have had a problem with our 2000 Maxima or as they are known here a 5th generation. Today our transmission has gone from its usual smooth shifting unit to staying in 1st gear and not changing at all. I read on a site that the ECU can be reset by disconnecting the battery for 15mins to reset the shift points. I did this and it came back to its old self , only to last about 3 kilometers then back to 1st again. No dash code lights or any other issues. Fluid appears good, not burnt and level is correct. Could this be a speed sensor or shift solenoid problem? Speedo and entire dash is working normally. We have only had this car for a week and have already had to change the starter motor. Any help appreciated. Rob

Hi...there is a push bottom switch locate under the dashboard above the break pedal wrote on it a/t ...turn the ignition on but don't run the car and press it for 30 seconds and then turn off the switch for awhile and the run the car and drive it,
This is the wR to resstor the transmission.

We don't have that button in the United States.

Thanks for confirming, so the OP may in fact look there since he is overseas.

They get all the cool stuff, diesel Pathfinders, MEVI's, cool buttons under their dash etc.

When mine acts up like this, I do a quick hard rev and it fixes it. Usually afterwards if my SES light was off, it will come on. My O/D light flashes about 16 times as well upon start up.
