When to replace the water pump?
 

The manual doesn't specify anything about this. Is at 100-105K miles reasonable? This is when most Hondas and Toyotas require a T-belt and the water pump also gets changed for good measure.

Never unless it leaks. It's an internal pump.

And aren't A02s glorified frams?

Before 120k miles or you are driving on borrowed time.

Toyota says to do it because youre already in there when doing the timing belt. Nissans with timing chains you dont bother unless it starts leaking as said

They're equipped with a weeping hole to alert you one of the seals has failed.

And yeah, A02s are re-badged Frams. I'm just finishing up a stock of them I had. The A01s are much better but harder to source.

most people don't know this. if you want your water pump to last flush your coolant. there is lubricant in the coolant for its bearings. plus once the coolant gets it builds up acidity that eats seals...

^^I did a radiator drain & fill several thousand miles back.

the water pump on the VQ35 has 2 big o-ring seals. I wouldn't worry much about the pump. one of the guys at my job has a 95 maxima with the VQ30 and he had the waterpump changed at a little over 250,000 miles. than he came to find out his fans were just running weak and starting to go bad..... I didn't find out I had a bad fan until I was in a parking lot waiting for my girl in the summer and I saw the needle a little higher than half way. I ended up buying 2 new fan motors for $80


a fresh thermostat, good radiator cap, good running fans, and making sure there are no leaks are pretty much all you need to worry about.

Yeah, as others have said, don't worry about it. My 02 has 200,000 miles and the wifes 00 has 270,000 miles on their original water pumps. If I had to remove the timing chain at this point, I'd consider a pump but not just to do it.

The idea of changing the water pump comes from timing belt cars where the pump is an easy change once the t-belt is off. A t-belt car with 120,000 miles may be on borrowed time (because of the belt) but not ours.

I was planning on changing water pump when doing timing chain. Whenever that needs doing. Being in close to 200K means it might not be far off. Maybe do oil pump too.

Nope. The chain never never needs replaced. Oil pump should never wear out, either.

timing chain is usually lifetime, only time they need replacing is if they stretch and ive seen that only twice in my time. both engines had 400,000+km on them. only time anything in the timing chain area needs doing is when the guides or tensioner go bad
