If you have replaced your own Crankshaft Position Sensor...

Hi all!

I replaced both camshaft position sensors and the crankshaft position sensor yesterday, went pretty smoothly. Did you know you can replace the crankshaft sensor from above - no crawling underneath? Good news for people like me with spine issues!

I was surprised, somewhat, to see that the CKP doesn't go completely into the trans/engine/bell housing (if they still call it that) - one side is inside a semicircular raised part, the O-ring sort of rests right at the outside of the other half. Is this pretty normal?

I had the original OEM in there, and it fit the exact same way as the replacement, though mine was so old that the original O-ring was completely gone. I don't know if it rotted away or got mangled off by the guys who replaced my clutch.

Anyway, the pics I find on the .ORG and on the 'Net all seem to show this "stepped" semi-circular hole, just wanted to confirm with the fine folks here.

Sounds like the normal CPS setup. Did you go with an OEM sensor? As you know non-OEM can be very hit and miss.

That looks like the one, alright! I wonder - is there any need to worry about using a silicone sealer or anything for this? Just seems odd that it wasn't a really tight fit. Maybe a beefier O-ring. :)

It's not like anything is going to get in there unless you like driving through rivers lol
